Wonderful Movie.

I had the privilege of meeting some of the Funk Brothers in Florida back in the day.

IIRC that’s the video that features, among other things,Joan Osborne covering “Heat Wave” and “What Becomes of the Broken
Hearted”.She did a surprisingly good job on both.

Yes, good movie. Had a lot of the old stories in there. It was good to see some of the guys getting the kudos.

Joan Osborne’s cover of “What Becomes of the Broken Hearted” is absolutely spellbinding!

The entire movie is available on Hulu - VERY highly recommended.

Great movie! Hilarious in places and heart-breaking in others.
I hated the part where the interviewer asked about race. The look on that guy’s face was very painful.
But it always has to be about race.
The black members of the Funk Brothers saved the lives of the whites during the Detroit riots.
They played for the love of the music. Race never once entered their minds.

Excellent flick. Interesting history.

Features African-American 2A defenders and terrific covers of Motown tunes. Joan Osbourne’s cover of What Becomes of the Brokenhearted is amazing.

I did not know that the second Funk Brothers bassist was a white guy from Pittsburgh.

And that movie was made none too late. The Brothers started dropping like flies soon after filming (some died during production). I believe that Joe Messina and Jack Ashford are the only two left of the movie’s primary stars. Sad but joyous film...SSZ

White and black men who were willing to take a bullet for each other was a beautiful thing. If only the whole world was like that.

I remember telling some folks I came across one day singing on a street corner to go to Detroit and look up a guy named Mo Towne.

I always wondered what happened to Aretha, Marvin, Smokey, Diana, Mary, Martha etc.... : )
