Your favorite shows are getting crammed with more and more commercials. New data from Nielsen show that the number of ads per hour of TV programming is at an all-time high.

Commercials comprised 14 minutes and 15 seconds of each hour of TV on broadcast networks in 2013, up from 13 minutes and 25 seconds in 2009, according to Nielsen’s annual Advertising and Audiences report. On cable, commercials are even more frequent, totalling 15 minutes and 38 seconds of each hour.

I still like LMU Emu and Doug.

Wouldn’t deal with the company.

.....”I don’t watch TV any longer for entertainment.”.....

I agree....there's nothing worthwhile to watch one could qualify as entertaining. Lots of stupidity and juvenile behaviors as if the population has ceased to grow up.

It all looks unrealistically dark and queer to me. Don’t watch it anymore.

I had not consciously determined to do so but realized a few months ago that I watch no current TV weekly episodes. Just oldies and some history types.

XM was good until Sirius took it over. Now the playlist sounds like FM. I can tell the time of day by the repetition. And don’t even start on the female DJ’s and their constant blather every 2 songs. It’s getting to the point where I’m going to give that up too. I started at less than $125.00 p/yr now it’s $250.00 per receiver.

I found it so aggravating in 1966 that i stopped watching then and have never owned a TV set or had cable service since.

I don’t miss it.

Yup, dropped commercial driven TV about 13 years ago for DVD rental and on demand streaming. My kids barely know what TV is (in terms of commercial laden scheduled/programmed content).

Totally agree. Stop talking Nina, Earl, and the others. I don’t pay to hear you. And how about something other than the top 40 by genre or decade. Boring.

Actually, it is "Riff".

4: riff:
To make stuff up on the spot. Can be applied to nearly anything--music, writing, lying, whatever.

Wasn’t cable TV (also known as “pay TV”) supposed to be commercial-free?

I remember that was a big selling point circa 1978-1980. The angle was that over the air tv was funded by commercials, but cable tv was supposed to be funded by the monthly bill INSTEAD OF commercials. This lasted about 2 minutes.

The result is cable subscribers spend a large portion of their bill to buy commercials.

The start of the 80s computer craze was partially responsible for that. People wanted the newest computer ads so much they were willing to pay for big magazines full of computer ads that used to be free.
