Here's Exactly Why Watching TV Has Gotten So Annoying

Your favorite shows are getting crammed with more and more commercials. New data from Nielsen show that the number of ads per hour of TV programming is at an all-time high.

Commercials comprised 14 minutes and 15 seconds of each hour of TV on broadcast networks in 2013, up from 13 minutes and 25 seconds in 2009, according to Nielsen’s annual Advertising and Audiences report. On cable, commercials are even more frequent, totalling 15 minutes and 38 seconds of each hour.

Other than live sports everything we watch is TiVo or streaming. See very few adverts these days.

Was mentioning the scorn dumped on yours truly by the TV addicts. Now and then I get tired of the eternal TV show references to stuff EVERYONE watched. Mention not being one of everyone and a few go ape. Cannot recall who right now or would include them in addressing this reply.

Have had the same issue with "celebrities" and not knowing who they are. Even had a mod delete a post of mine simply saying "Who?"

The most annoying commercials right now, by far, is Liberty Mutual. I have to wonder how they can provide such cheap insurance when the TV ads are on every 2-3 minutes ALL DAMN DAY! How is there any money left?

Most commercials are 4.5 to 7 minutes long. That’s why I a wearing out my fast forwarding button on my remote. It can jump in 1/2 minute intervals.

my buddy does advertising, I bitched 30 years ago, that I find the commercials offensive to my intellect.

On talk radio I’m not happy with all of the host sponsor plugs in the middle of the program.

I don’t watch TV any longer for entertainment. It’s not the commercials. There aren’t any programs with people I identify with.

Those Liberty Mutual ads are deceptive. Liberty Mutual promises to customize your car insurance. “Only pay for what you need.” But EVERY insurance company does that.

If Liberty Mutual Is so willing to run deceptive ads, you’ve got to wonder what other tricks they’d pull.

Liberty mutual insurance has a commercial where the guy keeps messing up his lines. He asks the producer if can’rift’, didn’t know slang meaning. A few days ago wAtching a YT and saw the defintion on a flashcard. The meaning is to have sex with children! Liberty is off my list of insurers.

The main one is the durned annoying animations that intrude on the bottom of the screen during the shows.

Upwards of 20 years ago, I was watching something on FX. Hank Hill drives his mower across the bottom of the screen, noisily, iirc,

So, I stopped watching both FX and King of the Hill.

Didn't really miss either, especially FX. Had just bought a Palm and got the split timer app. I timed the breaks in "Kiss of the Dragon". 4 mins and change movie, 5 mins and change commercials, so the noisy ad trampling the show/movie was the last straw.
