Pelosi remembers it like it was yesterday. She was having ice cream.

I had an Aunt who was six when it happened. We use to sit for hours talking about what she saw. Nice to get it first hand. Really wish I had recorded her. She died at 98 way back when.

This film was shot maybe 4 days before the earthquake. There was some publicity about it and people were encouraged to drive their cars down to Market Street to show them off. This clip has sound added. There are several types of street cars—cable cars, electric trolley cars and horse-drawn streetcars shown. Automobiles pedestrians, horse-drawn carrages, even a guy on horseback. Also the rules of the road weren’t quite set in stone.

At the very end, when the cable car gets to the Embarcadero, there’s a man with a long beard. He could have been a ‘49er back in the day.

Locals refer to it as The Fire - did much more damage than the quake did...

A large part of the peninsula moved 8 feet north in 2 minutes. That’s what all the shaking was about.

Lottie’s Fountain. Met there many times. In 1987 we met with five survivors in the early, chilly morning. Amazing. I’ll never forget the history teacher who led the morning event while wearing a top hat, tails and a walking cane. The Catholic Giamotti lent loans without interest to struggling families and workers which gave Bank of America tons of credit with consumers. Today, B of A has lost it’s credit with consumers by supporting anti-Catholic groups and punishing innocent consumers with massive fees.

In other news, President Trump gave another bold speech today and I am convinced that he is protected by God and by the finest military.

When my parents lived there in 1963, they could have talked to someone who remembered that event first-hand.

Time marches on.
