Dirty....for sure. I visited London and NYC last year. No comparison in the standards of cleanliness.

The London subway (tube) is actually a decent ride. The NYC subway is pretty scary.

Because they have sinned mightily before the Lord and are an abomination to him. How’s that?

But that wouldn't explain why SF got off so lightly.

“If it were just density, then Hong Kong and Singapore ought to have thousands of deaths each, instead of less than 100 combined.”

Unlike the two cities you mentioned New York City does not demand that immigrants from the Turd World adhere to first world standards.

here is from the New York city comptroller’s website:

Our Immigrant Population Helps Power NYC Economy
JANUARY 11, 2017

Countries of Origin of New York City Immigrants
New York City has 3.3 million foreign-born immigrants, from more than 150 countries, who comprise nearly 40% of the City population.

Just like if it was mass transit you would expect BART (in a proverbial human feces hazard zone) to represent a much greater risk.

Hong Kong and Singapore citizens are MUCH less in your face than New Yorkers, a brassy, assertive sort of people, and this trait cuts across all the other cultural differences.

Rude is contagious, and pretty much the way of life there.

There’s a $$$ reason. Each COVID-19 related procedure is an average $10,000.

That’s a “and we’ll make up for the losses with VOLUME” argument.

It gets even more silly when you understand that there are now 4-5 times as many people dying in NYC as usual - so your theory would involve pulling hundreds of folks who otherwise wouldn’t need treatment off the streets and out of their waiting rooms to kill them...and lose money.

“High population density, High mobility Extensive international travel,High dependency on mass transit
Increased High risk behavior..Oh yes, in your face types”

Why do PORT CITIES have more ‘cat houses’ STDs ( NYC.- New Orleans Miami ETC ETC ETC.... This News 1000s years old )

I expect the politicians to be dopes but when your "Health Commissioner" puts politcal correctness over the public's safety you can only have bad results.

New York City Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot posted a tweet on February 9 urging citizens to flock to Chinatown in large numbers to celebrate the lunar new year while suggesting that advice to avoid crowds was “misinformation.”

The death rate is explained by the high minority population. Blacks, especially, have significantly more underlying conditions then other ethnic groups. Also, a lot of the deaths in New York are people from the Caribbean, who also have higher mortality rates with this virus

Saving them for the Great TB Plague of 2021 (from human feces)?

(Not really serious ... people miss the point when they talk about wrath at this time, yes, bad things happen and we seem to have many people being turned over to depraved minds per Romans 1:18-33 ... which IS wrath expressed ... BUT this is still the favorable day Christ announced when he rolled up the scroll and didn’t continue reading ... yes, the terrible day of wrath is coming ... but right now good things happen to bad people and since all have sin and fallen short of the Glory of God that’s a very, very good thing.)

The city’s population density of 26,403 people per square mile (10,194/km²), makes it the densest of any American municipality with a population above 100,000.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_New_York_City

Let’s look at their children’s medical capacity. There are not enough vacant hospital beds available to serve 500 children per million population. Modified standards of hospital care to expand capacity may be necessary to serve children in a mass-casualty event.

New York currently has 53,000 hospital beds; it anticipates needing as many as 113,000 to cope with demand from COVID-19. The state has 3,000 ICU units; health officials say it needs at least 18,000 — and possibly as many as 37,000.

https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/03/23/820150795/cuomo-orders-all-hospitals-to-add-beds-as-new-york-confirms-20-000-coronavirus-c

This is why they asked for the hospital ship they misused, and are putting tents in central park. They didn’t have any idea on what to do.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/02/nyregion/ny-coronavirus-usns-comfort.html

They didn’t start social distancing until after they had more cases than any state in the union. And they are still concerned about it getting done.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/08/new-york-city-sees-slowing-in-coronavirus-case-increase-de-blasio-says.html

So, they are liberal, and thus foolhardy, there’s a large part of your answer.

New York has Cuomo.

Pennsylvania has Tom Wolf.

Wolf is now working with Cuomo and the other North/Eastern governors. If they succeed, it’s not going to be because of Cuomo, it will be because of the work that Pence has done and it will be because Wolf isn’t an idiot.
