Imagining Post-Coronavirus America: Maybe some good can come out of this whole situation.
American Thinker ^ | 04/12/2020 | Walt Johanson

Post-virus America can be a decentralized, more accountable country in school, business, and government.

My parents' generation, that of the War of 1939–45, looked forward to the peace with wistful ballads like "When They Sound the Last All Clear" and "When the Lights Come On Again." I doubt if our time will hear "When I Go Back to the Office Again" or "When We Go Back to School Again." After all, home confinement doesn't match spending nights in crowded basements or Tube stations during Luftwaffe bombings. Nevertheless, the Coronavirus Crisis is likened to a war, and many relate to Thomas Paine's words, "These are times that try men's souls." Paine's pamphlet, "The Crisis," appeared two days before Christmas 1776, the low point of the American Revolution. The day after Christmas, though, Washington led the Continental Army in his surprise attack on Trenton. The ensuing battle ended the Christmas Crisis of 1776, and it was a turning point in the War of Independence. It is possible that COVID-19 may soon be defeated as decisively as the Hessians at Trenton.

The Lenten Crisis of 2020 also tries men's souls. After it, many lives will have been ended; survivors' lives are being changed, temporarily at least, and perhaps permanently. Life may return to a semblance of normal by summer. Will The Normal be identical to The Before? The Coronavirus Crisis may, like wars, bring about changes, often radical social and political changes, that would not have occurred in "normal" times.

More adults, for example, have been telecommuting. More children have been engaged in "distance learning." These changes may not be temporary. Businesses may find that employees working at home, not burdened with the inefficient use of time and dollars in commuting, can be as productive as they are in the office.

Students from pre-K to university may benefit from learning via computer rather than in a classroom, where learning is geared to the lowest common denominator, often flavored with ideological indoctrination. Many students — and their parents — will find that online instruction resources are far more informative, flexible, and rewarding than teachers like the one who bored Ferris Buehler's classmates or those who are soul mates of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

College-level distance learning has made inroads. It unchains students from lectures by Professor Dry-as-Dust who cannot compete with well produced videos in which a renowned expert is accompanied by graphs, pictures, maps, and other visuals. The student can replay the lesson to achieve 100% comprehension.

ADD YOUR INPUT HERE:

* Less on-road commuting reduces demand for cars and fuel; less commuting reduces the need for road and rail transportation expansion plans (that usually come with out-of-this-world cost overruns). New consumer psychology could increase personal savings, especially for people who realize that they have failed to put aside enough for a rainy day (or year).

* If metropolises are no longer necessary for business in a high-technology world, small-town America could be revived.

On a more serious note we know who the enemies are we need to pursue them and do what is necessary. There is a lot of good that can come out of this but we also need to pay attention and deal with the bad who cause it, promoted fake news and hysteria, were involved with it at all levels, prolonged it, avoided it, encouraged those to rebel it, stretched their political positions of authority for the agenda. Much to think about, we must not forget. When it was dark the roaches came out to congregate when we turned the light on they scattered, we have always knew who they were but now we have more who were in the shadows

I'll never buy another product "Made in China," that's going to be a big part of my plan.

I hope we take away two things:

1. How corrupt and despicable the media are.

2. How corrupt and power hungry the Dems are.

Vote accordingly...

Maybe we could get Americans to acknowledge that the founders were correct about restricting the office of President to natural born citizens only and that those Chinese anchor babies being given US citizenship are NOT eligible to be President.

Agreed if not given the same crap Indian presenter quality as Lynda.com or YouTube in the tech field. It’s Atrocious, even with the sometimes included video transcript. So bad I have to turn off the sound. PowerPoint warriors rejoice. Let’s have Americans do this and ban foreigners.

University of Maryland University College did this. Instead of Face-to-face instruction at (mostly) Army Education Centers with classes of 15 students max, online classes were 50 to 100 students per section. Grading and giving real assistance became extremely limited. This was back in the early naughts, so hopefully things changed. But college administrators tend to see Distance Learning as a way to cut staff. Originally it was so those deployed could continue classes. University of Phoenix, with their flashy marketing and shoddy teaching somehow got the tri-services contract. That was the end to teaching most face-to-face classes at UMUC

Government has grabbed a tremendous amount of power in the last 30 days. Our whole country will soon need to have a talk about giving power back to the voter and constitutional limits.

Yep. I definitely didn’t hear anyone talking about what they were giving up for Lent this year! Too many other ways to virtue signal right now.

We need a mobilization of Americans and resources that is as great as the amazing efforts that took place during World War II.

We need America to take back control of ideation, technology, manufacturing, and growth.

We need to restore our country’s faith in God.

This is an awakening.

Respond!

Consider how expensive college has become, and how many students are now in debt, perhaps for decades just to pay back their college loans, I see Online education as a trend that will replace most face to face on campus college education.

Covid-19 will simply show this to be true for the vast majority of families.

THAT has been my take away from this: (we are ilder, no kids) what the Democrats/Leftists revealed of themselves. Talk about dropping all pretense. They are all little Stalins, even mayors. Planned Parenthood considered to be essential?! Over the top.

Also, learned just how fantastic Donald J. Trump is at being President. I would not want anyone else there now. I feel for him and the burdens he carries, though.

On a more serious note we know who the enemies are we need to pursue them and do what is necessary.

Unfortunately, there are many, including here, that feel that this is so bad that there should have been even stronger restrictions and limits on our freedom. If you can't even get strong conservative Freepers to acknowledge that this went too far, we are not going to get lay-public to see it.
