A Charlotte woman hasnt left her house in more than three weeks, yet still tested positive for COVID-19 late Thursday.
Im absolutely terrified, Rachel Brummert, who already has an autoimmune disorder, said. This is the sickest Ive ever been and its the most scared Ive ever been. From what Im hearing about ventilators, its scary stuff. Im really hoping I can wait this out at home.
At a higher risk for complications due to her underlying condition, Brummert said she listened to the health experts. Other than a trip to the pharmacy more than three weeks ago, she hasnt left her house once.
I really thought I was doing everything right, she said.
Brummert said aside from the pharmacist and her husband, who grocery shops but is temporarily living in a separate room, the only other person shes come into contact with is a woman who volunteered to drop off groceries at her doorstep once. Brummert said the woman later tested positive for COVID-19.
I barely had any contact, she said. I didnt even touch her.
Brummert said she gets the mail every few days, but always wears gloves. However, she didnt think to wear gloves when bringing in packages from her front porch. In addition, she said she hasnt eaten takeout.
Brummert has experienced many of the symptoms associated with COVID-19, including cough, fever, headache and trouble breathing, but even so, she said it took several days to meet the criteria to be tested.
Regardless of the source of the infection in her case, Brummert knows her diagnosis is just another reminder that COVID-19 is easy to get and often hard to trace.
Ive never had anything like this before, she said. Ive had the flu. This is not the flu. Its a whole nother monster.
It’s good to hear that at least some media outlets are interested in reporting actual facts.
“Its good to hear that at least some media outlets are interested in reporting actual facts.”
I just hope the 24 yo author of the original got his hand slapped.
Yeah, burning would work too. It’s like the real-world equivalent of deleting suspicious e-mails, to avoid a ‘virus’.
Your mother wouldn’t be too far off about the UV-C lightboxes — UV-C is deadly. The room-sterilizing lamps come with a timer and a remote with a ten-second delay. You stand in the doorway, press the start button, and promptly shut the door behind you. Unlike X-rays or Gamma rays, the UV-C rays won’t go through the door (or the lightbox).
WSOC used to be the worst news channel there.
WCNC seemed slightly better. I’ve been in both places. CNC had nicer facilities and was treated better overall.
Im sorry she is affected with her underlying conditions, but lets face it. We are all going to be exposed. You eat food from somewhere. Your husband is in the same house. Its not possibly to live 100% sterile.
Best is to bump up your vitamins, sleep, and MOOD. She admits to having lived in terror and fear. Those emotions lower your immune system powerfully.
Enjoy life. Its all going to work out. It will be ok - we will all do our best.
try the common cold...try the flu...or food poisoning....everything is easy “to get”....
we have a lot of ocd types apparently...
I could see a situation where a person who has covid19 sneezes while walking on an empty street.
The droplets with the virus fall to the pavement, where they can survive for days.
A person takes his dog for a walk and the dog picks up the viruses on his paws.
When they get home the dog gets on the owners lap and transmits the viruses.
The dog owner transmits the virus to his face eyes, mouth etc and gets sick. Never had any direct contact or saw an infected person.
Things happen don't they. -Tom
Thanks for the additional info on UV-C.
I made the mistake of using my ozone box with a mask inside - destroyed the elastic. (I put rubber bands on.)
I used to use my UVC light on masks, but the inventor of the 3M N95 masks said that is bad as the UVC light breaks down the synthetic poly-something inner filter.
He said either heat in your oven, suspended by a wood clothespin (170 at 30 minutes), or better yet - just hang it at room temperature for 3 to 4 days. I have a few masks and don’t go out more than once every three days so that is what I do now.
I try to go out only once a week, but taking care of others, and it seems there is always an extra run to the pharmacy or something. At least nowadays they know better than to ask me to “stop by the store and pick me up some donuts on the way over”.
60+% of patients at the hospital in the ICU (where ventilators are used) should not have been put on ventilators there. As the article shows, one hospital lost 60% of its patients needing advanced care by treating everyone as if they had ARDS. The other hospital that stopped giving ventilators to the 70% needing advanced other treatment had zero deaths.
ARDS needs ventilators. That is not what most of the ICU cases benefit from.
Why hasnt her doctor given her the drug combo???
Paranoid
I'm just trying to make the best of what I have (don't let perfection be the enemy of good enough). So far, I have experienced no obvious problems with the masks I use -- but, I'm half expecting my plastic box to crumble any day now.
FWIW, here's a photo of an O3 box that Magna International makes. I found out about it a few weeks after I Macgyvered my box. Magna is applying to the FDA for certification to use their box for sterilizing PPE for reuse. If they get certified, I'll continue to use my box; if not I won't use if for masks. Meanwhile, I should probably try the heat method too.
That’s it then.
Mystery solved.
“ARDS needs ventilators. That is not what most of the ICU cases benefit from.”
If I remember correctly you said only 30% of ARDS patients need ventilators.
I got a cardboard box, lined the inside with aluminum foil and put some little wire racks in it. Put shoes, phones, credit cards, etc. on the racks and the UVC hangs above the box. Downstairs spare bedroom, close the door.
I’m not so sure how well the aluminum foil works to reflect the light and get the bottoms of the items on the racks, so I turn them over. I’m not sure how long they need to be hit with (25 watt bulb) but I figure 20 minutes each side should be good.
Except for the shoes - after they get the UVC I squirt the soles with 409 and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes or more (I’ve read some people say 30 seconds is enough and others say 4 minutes.) And then I use soapy water and a brush to finish cleaning the soles.
All the stuff I go through to leave the house and come back really cuts down on the errands!
From what I’ve seen in the news it’s not lung failure. Turns out it’s red blood cell failure. The virus let’s the iron out of the blood cells. Hcq, zpac, zinc and oxygen on high. I also understand many a lung have been damaged by too much ventilator pressure. I’m not a doctor and I’m aware there is other opinions.
Oh - there is a new type of UV light that folks are developing that is NOT harmful to humans, pets, plants. That way they can run them while the patient is in the room. I wonder if this new type of UV light (a different frequency) will also be safe for masks?
But just be aware their box used for masks might be using a different frequency of light than what we have with our UVC lamps.
We considered delivery but it seemed safer to get our own things. The delivery shoppers are in the store all day long. I go right when they open after the overnight cleaning.
