Its just the flu, bro.
A few things to watch for at the state level: 1. More tyranny in various states with heavy handed approaches to social distancing. 2. More good news in treatment front - ventilator bad...hydroxychloroquine (sp?) good....but how many states are making things worse by denying the medicine because they hate Trump. 3. Which states are going to keep the lockdown even after Trump/CDC says to end it. 4. And just a comment - I like how Trump allows states to do what they want.
And also note that these death stats are trash and lies. They want Corona funding.
The curve was flattened and hospitals arent overrun...so declare mission accomplished and open everything up. Reframe victory as a successfully flattened curve, in order to extract us from this mess.
Those 2 movies are our Easter tradition, lest we think about bunnies and eggs only. What a Savior!
If FR had a thumbs up button, I’d click on it for you. Have a great fear free day, my FRiend.
I think the fear that we’ve lost our rights is completely unfounded.
Where are the lawsuits against the lockdowns? Apparently the people claiming we are abrogating our rights don’t have the conviction to even challenge it in court. The precedents wouldn’t be favorable to them. But those precedents have been there for 250 years, and nobody was challenging them 3 months ago.
I do see lawsuits against businesses, such as the one against Walmart, because employees got the virus after Walmart didn’t take any preventative measures.
A politician won’t be able to order a lock down without a pandemic. So relax. Go get your herd immunity, put those around you at risk. But you’re economy is not going to come back until people feel safe about shopping in crowds and going to restaurants. So you can do it the right way or you can do it the half-assed way.
And the rights way is dragging this on?
The right way is to drag it on long enough, until you get the following in place:
If you do that, then the economy opens up in those regions with confidence. And you'll have a more successful opening.
If you open when there are still a large number of new cases every day, and there is no means of protection, then customers are going to stay away. And businesses will have employment expenses but no customers. Then they close. Meanwhile the cases spike and we contemplate going back on lock down.
In a sense, I think you're correct, Danny, although this loss-of-liberty fear is not "completely unfounded". It's true that our liberties still exist even with the Constitution temporarily suspended by the "faux-king" governors in many states ... It's just that the only way to exercise your freedom is in secret ... that's what's fearful.
I don't know. I don't know the status of the preparations that are being made. Clearly Trump has set a goal of May 1, will we make it, I don't know. I believe he has already said some hot spots will have to go longer, so Trump is already thinking regional re-openings based on the situation in that region.
I hope May 1 for most of the country. Maybe May 15th.
China locked down Wuhan and Hubei province Jan 23rd. They are just now trying to reopen. That's 2.5 months. But maybe we don't need to do it like China because we now know of effective medicines, and we're more socially distant than China naturally.
Do not the many states where “the faux-king governors” exist, have legislatures and courts. Do they not have checks and balances? Yes of course they do. But the people’s elected representatives agree with the actions the governors have taken.
What freedoms have we actually given up that we have “to exercise in secret”?
The freedom of speech is still there. We can post any stupid idea on Free Republic or tweet it or....
The freedom to bear arms is still there. I know there was a mayor or two that went full communist, but I believe they were quickly met with lawsuits.
The freedom of religion is still there. No one is telling you what to believe.
The freedom of assembly is the only right that we’ve temporarily foregone, and that’s only because exercise of that right at this time risks spreading disease.
1529 cases per million population. 548 in my state. But it was 1519 cases per million yesterday so it is a wild fire. Truly some scary stuff.
Big Tech like Google and Facebook are actively censoring those of us in the #FireFauci movement.
Time to go back to the old telephone tree. Everyone contact 10 friends and tell them to contact the White House and demand his dismissal.
Freedom of assembly = freedom of religion for some religions (eg Catholic). I am thankful that some Protestant churches are protesting this. Eventually this might help my Catholic Church open sooner.
Well your Pope said you could go directly to God for confession if no priest was available because of lock downs.
So you might just have to go on the wild side, be a little protestant, given the situation. God will understand.
I wish I could talk you away from that slippery slope you have solidly placed your feet on. And I would ask, again, "Do you believe that a government that is so willing to "suspend" your rights will be willing to go back to protecting the rights they have chosen to suspend? If they are willing to "take" one right from you, what will stop them from taking another and another and another, etc? Fear is our enemy not the CV. I am not going to pretend that this is "just a flu, bro," but I do fall in the flubro camp. However, the government's reaction to this has been excessively extreme. CV is going to spread in our population no matter what we do, and as it spreads it will kill people -some outright, some as a comorbidity - but we certainly could have reacted in a way that would have done far less harm. And if you think the flubros are only worried about the economy and our rights, then I think you haven't quite grasped everything we are concerned about.
If you still think our liberties have not been restricted I admit that I am unable to help you further with that fact. However I am confident in my belief that you will recover quickly and completely, not from the Chinese Flu itself which you and I and hundreds of millions of other Americans do not, thankfully, have (just as with the “regular” annual flu), but from your sustained fear of the Chinese Flu as evidenced by your fearlessness to continue to post on this thread. Truly, your courage is still present and is obviously strong, and I predict that you will do just fine when you receive permission from your governor to venture back outside and enjoy your liberty that has been so graciously restored to you by the state.
There is a difference between what one can do and what one should do.
Yes, I do. Or at least I do, as long as we elect people who respect those rights. Some on the left would clearly deny us our rights COVID or no COVID.
But I have faith in the American people. It's not entirely up to the government. The people aren't asserting our rights at this time, because it makes sense to lock down and prevent the spread of the disease.
When the disease is gone, if government doesn't lift the restrictions, then the people will rise up. It won't be necessary, but that's what would happen in the hypothetical scary scenario you paint.
Could we have reacted in a way that would have done far less harm? Yes, we could have listened to what China was saying about the illness, and we could have quarantined everyone coming into the country. And the CDC could have gotten testing available sooner.
But we didn't and the CDC didn't and now here we are. The economy was locking down with or without the government. The market was falling, flights were cancelling for lack of patrons, restaurants were seeing a decline, I was stocking up long before the TP shortage. You said it's not just the economy and the rights? What else are you worried about?
Excellent.
When?
“When?”
See post 44.
When?
When the stack of messages on Trump’s desk demanding that he fire Fauci rise so high he can no longer see the flag across the room.
As FDR famously said, “Make me do it.”
