He should not have done that, and he should not be under arrest for it.

My grandmother was like a mother to me and I adored her. I once said a bad word to her and she scrubbed my teeth with a bar of palmolive soap. Also spanked me a time or two. I owe her everything and never dreamed of filling out a police report. Just the opposite.

he should never have done that but its a lose/lose situation...now he's off to jail and the family is in shambles and for sure the dtr will be ostracized by other family members....

If this is an isolated incident, prison is excessive.. But, he should get his wish and never have any contact with the daughter. Go anywhere near her, and prison it is.

Children now belong to the State.

You are permitted to parent them as long as the State approves.

That said what I tell parents of out of control teenagers is to walk away from them.

They are a safety risk, they can call police, they can lie, they can tear apart lives and family. They are a financial risk as the courts drain monies. Teens are no longer worth fighting for... our culture has made it so.

Most come around, some are lost. It is better to be distantly cordial than to be arrested for parenting.
