RE: your post of President Trump’s comments about hospitals needing money.

I have been noodling the notion that the primary reason hospitals holler about needing money now is that they’ve been cut off from their cash cow of all those non-emergency money makers. i.e. heart caths, elective surgeries, repetitive lab tests...

Maybe I’m too antagonistic toward the processes of my own medical care. My opinion is that some of the monthly/bimonthly routine tests are too much in terms of time and money. I personally keep most of my physical issues in check by 1) prayer, 2) healthy diet, 3) exercise and 4) quite a few alternative medicine practices. (Various supplements, my above thread slide on homeopathics) Yet I still have a couple of issues that trapped me in medical/insurance regular lab tests. My numbers are always close to perfect since I’ve made needed lifestyle changes to address original issues. And yet “the system” still requires me to stay on their merry-go-round of regular tests.

I have cancelled 4 routine things since March 15. I did have one routine doc consult on Zoom last week but avoided the accompanying routine labs.

I’m not sure of this but I suspect these routine money-makers for the medical/big pharma crowd have more to do with hospitals needing money than chicom wuflu.

As always YMMV.

Maybe I’m too antagonistic toward the processes of my own medical care.

I don't know how anyone can claim certainty, but most sources attribute 250,000 deaths a year or more due to medical errors. Total US deaths are down right now. We know some of that is because there are fewer accidents, etc., during the shutdown.

You bring up an interesting point, though, that almost all elective medical procedures have been put on hold.

That said, I still am skeptical that there's any way to accurately assess the number of deaths attributable to medical error. Statistics seldom tell you what actually happened, but they almost always tell you about the world view of the statistician that compiled them.

Great analysis. Glad you shared those ideas.

I almost never go to the doctor. Best way to stay healthy is avoid the doctor. I’m semi-serious about that.

My doctor’s office is continually harassing me to come in for checkups, etc. I ignore.
