He was a great wordsmith, but I thought his music was mostly kind of boilerplate folk/country. I guess the words and music worked together somehow, although I was never a huge fan. Nonetheless, RIP to Mr. Prine.

I always thought of him in terms of the similar descriptor I had for Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Shel Silverstein: “A musical poet, but not necessarily a poetic musician.”
