One of the obnoxious FluBros wagered we would not surpass the 2009 Swine Flu (H1N1) pandemic of 2009. Today we surged past it and now we are at 1.02 H1N1s with plenty of day left. Bad day today. Since that meter is pegged, I guess we now have to measure in terms of the worst flu season of the millennium, 2017-2018 when the death toll was estimated at 80,000 US. That’s the next milestone I hope we DO NOT reach.
Even with all the containment and mitigation efforts we are at 0.16 Flu2017s.

Generally speaking, I find people who will admit they were wrong about something are becoming a rare breed these days.
Maybe social media is partly to blame.
They’ll eventually be measuring it against Spanish Flu death rate (around 10%), then the Black Plague (around 33% at least) soon enough. But what I’m hoping is that it will really turn out to have a resolved CFR of .2 or .3 (or even less) when the CDC does its estimate of total cases, like it does for flu seasons. Unfortunately, it could be a bit higher than that. :-(

200k = really bad flu
300k = not as bad as 1918 flu
Plausible, except it happens over a two or 3 month period in spite of the most extreme mitigations in the history of man.
