We lived in MI for a time when I was a kid, and a neighbor took me to see the Tigers vs Yankees in Detroit. It was Al Kaline, Norm Cash, et al for the Tigers, and Roger Maris, Mickey Mantly, et al for the Yanks.
Don't remember who won, but it was a magical day.
Have many chores to get done today so won't be here to comment much, but wanted to post this in case others haven't heard about Al's passing.
By all accounts he was a true credit to the game and a fine example to kids of all ages.
RIP Mr. Tiger

My favorite bat was a “Kuen” 34 inch. I don’t even know who he was but the bat was a little fat.
Al Kaline was my favorite player. Always count on him to come through in the clutch.

One of the all-time greats who brought class and excitement to baseball. I wasn’t the best hitter, but my go-to bat was an Al Kaline 34.

More blood on the hands of Donald Trump! (/Democrat)
To: Rummyfan
That is probably him. His bat was thicker in the handle area than most.

Harvey Kuen? Who later went on to manage the Brewers....That would be Harvey Kuehn, who was also a member of the 1962 San Francisco Giants. My dad took me to my first Giants game that year, when I was 8, it was a great year for the Giants.
I always respected Al Kaline, he was a great player in every sense of the word.

Whenever I see a package of ALKALINE batteries at the supermarket checkout, it always puts a smile on my face.

One of the classiest guys to ever play the game.....
Justin Verlander was interviewed by a local station and he said the first time he ever met Kaline he called him "Mr. Kaline.
Kaline responded "Mr. Kaline is my dad, just call me Al.
Verlander said he had too much respect for him to call him Al so he always addressed him as Mr. K......
