ALICE COOPER Is Playing Golf Every Morning During Coronavirus Pandemic

Legendary rocker Alice Cooper, who has lived in Arizona for decades, spoke to Forbes about how he is holding up during the coronavirus pandemic. He said: "The great thing in Arizona is that the golf courses are open. They say it's an outdoor event, you're not touching anything but your own equipment. And they want people out doing something — walking, outdoor activities and they said that is the one sport that is not a contact sport. There are 200 golf courses here. So we go out every morning, first off there's nobody out there. We have the whole place to ourselves and we're done by 9:30, 10 o'clock and it's great. We come home and then I don't feel guilty sitting watching TV all day."

According to Golf News Net, most U.S. states have not ordered golf courses to shut down as part of coronavirus crackdowns on movement and public activities.

The 72-year-old Cooper recently told Arizona Republic that he feels "less vulnerable" in his house than he does in a different hotel every day. "You don't know who’s been there, what they've touched," he explained. "When I was in Europe, I spent all day doing Purell, washing my hands. Every time you would touch something, you'd realize 'Well, how do you know that wasn't infected?'"

As to whether he's concerned about the possibility of contracting COVID-19, Cooper said: "I'm not scared of this thing. ... But you've got to consider everybody. You never know what the guy next door's health problems are."

Last month, Cooper told Rolling Stone that he will use the downtime from having his North American tour postponed to work on new music.

"While our management is working to reschedule the postponed shows, I'm going to finish work on my next album, which is nearly done," he said. "At least now I won't be squeezing in vocal recording sessions on days off, between shows. I don't like a lot of time off, as anyone who sees my schedule already knows, but a little extra time at home can be re-energizing."

Cooper's latest release — the six-track "Breadcrumbs" EP, described as a tribute to the garage-rock heroes of his hometown of Detroit — was released in September via earMUSIC.

"Breadcrumbs" featured covers of Bob Seger's "East Side Story", the MC5's "Sister Anne", Suzi Quatro's "Your Mama Won't Like Me" and MITCH RYDER & THE DETROIT WHEELS' "Devil With A Blue Dress On", plus a reworking of "Detroit City" from 2003's "The Eyes Of Alice Cooper" album, titled "Detroit City 2020", and a new song co-written with Wayne Kramer, "Go Man Go".

The local public course just reopened with new “guidelines” in place for the time being (closed clubhouse, bathrooms, no pushcart rentals, one to a golf cart, etc... Cups are inverted, do not remove flag, no rakes in the bunkers, etc...)

The private course in the high end community across the way never blinked. They’ve been wide open right along from the start. I think that’s where the ones that make the rules for others live....

OMG, he is looking more like a 70 year old woman who has had too much plastic surgery every day.

Alce Cooper was also a friend of RC Sproul (shown here with John MacArthur).

For what it’s worth, The Masters would have been held this weekend.

For us in the northern climes, that always was a signal that it was OK to start playing again.

Have done a lot of driving up and down the east coast in the past 10 years or so. Always loved tuning in to Nights with Alice Cooper. Great show. Plays the ‘B’ sides a lot and always has plenty of knowledgeable insight into various songs, artist personalities, groups and the industry as a whole.

Re-Hotel rooms:

We were in California when the restrictions started. California being on the cutting edge, as always, started with the restaurants. Our hotel sent us a closed envelope. Inside they informed us that they were reducing Housekeeping. Rooms would only be cleaned after you checked out so the next inhabitant would be safe. This was early in the third week of March. We checked out early and were lucky enough to get an earlier flight home. Burbank Airport and Sky Harbor were ghost towns. I am worried for the Hospitality Industry as I doubt that many hotels/motels are staying open. We were also lucky enough to get a hot breakfast on the day we left.....the restaurant was closing that day at 11AM.

Good for him. Great way to keep your distance from others. Just don’t touch the flag stick, ball washers, water jugs, etc. And walk ... no need to touch a cart.

Virginia left the golf courses open. Also, they don’t seem to be upset if people are playing tennis, which in fact is ANOTHER non-contact sport.

In fact, I was surprised they shut down Wimbledon, it seems they could have done that without crowds, and collected tons of money from TV coverage. There is almost no risk of spreading CV playing tennis; for doubles, you’d just have to trust your double’s partner to have kept clean.

I love the “B” sides! Listened to “Nights with AC” once in awhile, too. I look for internet stations that play obscure late 60’s to mid 70’s rock, there are a few. I could only find “Nights” online. I love discovering a song I haven’t heard in decades, or some gem from an artist popular or unheard of.
