I have some friends who are uhm...not Republicans and they are insisting The President declare some sort of national Emergency under some assumed imprimature, of which, I am unaware he is able to do under the Constitution.
Then, after two weeks, we can be done with it and go back to business.

We, in Nebraska do have rules. No more than 10 people allowed in an area where you can’t maintain more than 6ft apart. Restaurants bars Malls ...everything else closed except grocery stores gas stations.

Like it or not, President Trump is now deep into our political currents. He seems to comprehend this as far as I can see.
You cannot survive in our current political climate by directly opposing the prevailing currents.
You survive by navigating (leadership!) the currents in the directions that are available to you, hopefully (from my POV), choosing the paths that present the best outcome for our country in both the near and long term.
This is a contest of will, IMO.
I heard something similar the other day from someone who will never be accused of being a Trump lover.
This person was snarling about "why doesn't Trump just shut the whole country down" and "there are only five states not shut down, and they have REPUBLICAN governors."
I pointed out that the decision to "shut down" was at the discretion of each state's governor.
Still didn't sink in.
These people all feed off the same talking points and it's a wonder to behold how they react and spout things in unison.

The liberals are getting what they want. If Trump declares a national emergency and then pulls it, the governors can replace it with their own.
The shutting down of the economy was an effort to harm Trump’s efforts to make this economy work and he was getting it done. This is how the libs are going to try get votes in November 2024. It’s obvious. They are trying to get the top seat back with people that shouldn’t be elected dog catcher because they know they can’t beat Trump so they are building on 2024.
They blamed him for the virus, which he had nothing to do with, they blamed him for forcing everyone into seclusion which governors did, they blamed him for the dump in the market which he made every effort to repair and they are fighting him with the same twisted scare tactics that started it, and they are willing to dump their governors to try to get the top seat back with people that shouldn’t be elected dog catcher because they know they can’t beat Trump so they are building on 2024.

We’ve been shut down three weeks. If you owned a business that couldn’t take three weeks of being shut down...guess what? You are a crappy business person.
If you are an adult and you cannot live more than a month without a check, you are not doing that well either.

The number dead look no different than the seasonal flu. Both Coronavirus and the flu are highly contagious, airborne and a virus.
Keep in mind the time frame too. President Trump said China first told him in November of 2019. That is when China admitted they had an issue. It had been going on since September of 2019. So for six months Chinese citizens were traveling all over the world. Yet not a single hospital noticed people dropping dead like flies? Everyone in a New York were just fine.
It’s all a bunch of B.S. yes the virus is real. The hysterical response is B.S. it does not kill any more than the seasonal flu, and we do not shut down the economy because of that.

Here in Washington state the churches, businesses (Microsoft, Amazon, etc.) started recommending work from home a week before the governor said anything. Between the workers and the owners - nobody wanted to put themselves and others at risk. Bad for business if all your workers start dying. Of course some businesses (like Microsoft) lend themselves to working from home fairly easily.
Construction workers and waitresses, not so much.

You know, something to think about, if it really has broken in NYC, admissions going down, from this point on there is no reason for anyone to get sick, or even get the virus. Here’s where you have to “keep your head when...” but seriously. Everyone now knows “it’s out there.” If you can keep from catching it in the next 3-4 weeks you may have a decent chance of never getting it. Sure, if you do get it you have maybe a 97-98% chance of being “bad flu”sick at the worst and maybe a 50/50 chance of not even knowing you have it. But there’s “The Curse” if you will. Some 3% will get seriously ill, and for maybe 7-10 days. Seven to ten days of being the sickest you’ve ever been and not knowing if you won’t be one of the 0.5% who will suddenly decompensate and run a 80-90% risk of death in a matter of hours. Sounds like Hell on Earth to me.
Know how to avoid aerosols, know an N95 mask with a vent is NO mask to you. If you have to be in a high flow, turbulent air environment with people without masks or those masks with vents YOU need a N95 mask, preferably one with no hole because you don’t want to be rude.
When you go to the store take a plastic bag a couple pair of latex gloves and your bandana, put the gloves on after you exit the car, get your stuff, return, place stuff in back seat, close door, remove gloves form the inside, deposit in plastic bag, get in, toss bandana on passenger seat, drive home.
Leave the stuff in the back seat for a couple days. Which is why you focus on canned goods and boxes, potatoes, maybe. Obviously no ice cream.
If you can do this stuff you have a good chance of making it. If you have to work in a high flow environment it obviously becomes more complex.

Remember, I said some ten days ago those people who “aren’t getting it” are The First Cohort coming forward from that time who “volunteered to go first”. They all got sick at roughly the same time. Then some 10 days ago, everyone pretty much got the message. So the NEXT cohort following them should be much smaller. But for the next two weeks or so that first cohort will be out there. It is critical you don’t get it from them. Stay away from masks with holes and no bandana. In 4 weeks there could get to be a pint where there is little virus around to catch.
People who do have to progressively return to high flow areas you are going to have to put serious thought into how you do everything you do. For 4 weeks or so at least.
