A lot of people are quick to point out the data models are wrong on the outbreak, deaths and beds needed.

The Model does not take in account how well the social distancing is working. I think the Social Distancing is working real well.

Because the social distancing approach is working could that mean the overall death rate will drastically drop?

Maybe be 0.2 to 0.3 compare to the Flu 0.1%. I was original thinking back in late Feb it would be 0.2 to 0.7 base on South Korea data.

It does appear the infection rate has been slow down, allowing better treatment for the serious ill lowering death rate. Example would be New York. Imagine what it would have been like with no social distancing.

“Your son in his 20’s is at almost NO RISK WHAT SO EVER. Let him live his life. This is an old fart killer virus.”

And if he brings it home to his old fart relatives, or gives it to his friends and they bring it home?

Plus who says old people are worthless?

And you are ignoring the many deaths of 30 or 40 year old “old people”. Your callous disregard for human life is not a conservative value.

Reactivating CV. Which is why we shouldn’t be so quick with the antibody test to give everyone a get out of stay home free card.

This is just like Ebola which stays in your body for months and years and pops back up. Ebola stays in semen for 6 months. A British nurse had it pop up at least 3 reported times in about 3 years but haven’t seen anything on her lately.

Yep...that trolling is what is truly ‘unsettling’.

I liken it to sever TDS.

We had Zombieland 2, on tv, in the background, the other night, so...there’s a similarity to that, too...you never know when one will appear out of nowhere, lashing and thrashing.

OF’s (old farts) that need to isolate should do just that isolate. Don’t expect 20 somethings not at risk to stop living because YOU need to separate YOURSELF from them. It SHOULDN’T BE THE OTHER WAY AROUND!> GEEEZZZZZZ......

It doesn’t matter if 4 are significant number or where they caught it. What matters to me is if they handled my lettuce or coughed within a mile of it.

The first SARS, (like this one), attached itself to cells to infect (and destroy) via a receptor called ACE2.

The tissue distribution for ACE2 in the body is:

https://www.proteinatlas.org/ENSG00000130234-ACE2/tissue

Scroll down. The larger the ‘bar’ the more ACE2.

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.03.21.20037267v2 (this paper has not been pulled, a previous one has been)

We’ll have to wait and see if this particular virus does the same thing.

BUT, the first SARS (its cousin) certainly had such an effect. This particular virus binds to the same receptor even more strongly than the first. And those receptors are found in testes.

It certainly wouldn’t be the FIRST virus to affect male fertility if caught after puberty. Mumps is a great example of that.

meant to includ this link in my previous reply:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16237152 (I’ll summarize. Rekt!)

“Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus has been known to damage multiple organs; however, little is known about its impact on the reproductive system. In the present study, we analyzed the pathological changes of testes from six patients who died of SARS. Results suggested that SARS caused orchitis. All SARS testes displayed widespread germ cell destruction, few or no spermatozoon in the seminiferous tubule, thickened basement membrane, and leukocyte infiltration. The numbers of CD3+ T lymphocytes and CD68+ macrophages increased significantly in the interstitial tissue compared with the control group (P < 0.05). SARS viral genomic sequences were not detected in the testes by in situ hybridization. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated abundant IgG precipitation in the seminiferous epithelium of SARS testes, indicating possible immune response as the cause for the damage. Our findings indicated that orchitis is a complication of SARS. It further suggests that the reproductive functions should be followed and evaluated in recovered male SARS patients.”

Notice that the poster also missed the the whole idea that it wasn’t just about my son being at risk, but that he could be a risk to others. 🙄

"One of the nation’s top public health officials suggested Monday that because Americans are taking social distancing recommendations “to heart,” the death toll from the novel coronavirus will be “much, much, much lower” than models have projected."

I did not know that about Ebola. I largely ignored that one.

Hm, I wonder if the nurse is still alive.

If I had a grown son who hadn’t completed his family, I would also caution about exposure to this virus until we know a LOT more about long term effects of having had it.

Exactly what I have been saying since the beginning when the young ones were celebrating being largely “immune”.

Yes, I have warned him about it. Also, there can be some pretty long term lung damage in the younger folks. They are definitely not at zero risk.

What? COVID would actually be devastating if it was killing young people. Who the hell are you?
