5G-coronavirus conspiracy theory spurs rash of telecom tower arson fires
https://fortune.com/2020/04/06/5g-coronavirus-conspiracy-theory-telecom-tower-fires/
What is the gist of this 5G theory?
I suspect it’s nothing more than the aroma of bullshit.
“What is the gist of this 5G theory?”
Idiocy.
This article says it started with QAnon.
I would not be surprised.
“More like 2/3 of the people on Free Republic have lost the ability of empirical thought. 99% of the folks who get covid 19 make a complete recovery similar to the seasonal flu but the whole country is shut down. Yeh that makes sense.”
First of all, the average CFR of the common flu is 0.1%. So even your obliviously underinformed number is 10 common flus.
Our HCS is built to handle a bad flu season. Not 10 bad flu seasons at the same time. So if as many people caught CCP-19 as catch the common flu (about 20% of the population each season), at the same pace of infection, that would collapse the HCS right there. And take the economy with it.
But fortunately, due to mitigation, only about 2% of the population has been infected with CCP-19 (so far) instead of the 20% that catch the flu each year. Nevertheless, CCP-19 is killing people at 10+ times the rate of the common flu on your average in-season flu day.
How many people would be dying each day if 10 times as many were infected (and magically our HCS didn’t collapse, somehow)? Well, 10 times as many seems like a reasonable answer. That means we’d have people dying right now at 100 times the rate they do from the flu in flu season.
Now consider that the penetrance of a new population by a “novel” virus is estimated to be between 50% and 95% depending on the R0 and incubation period of the virus. Looking at the UT Spring Break group that went to Mexico (which wasn’t even reporting more than a few cases at the time) and came back 70% infected, that seems like a reasonable compromise until we get a better data set.
So instead of dying at 10 times the rate of the common flu with 2% infected, or 100 times the rate of the flu with 20% infected,
Use your “empirical” thinking skills to do the math yourself.
Why do you think the Chinese tore up all the roads into their main transportation hub and tanked their economy for at least 2 quarters?
You should email them with your conclusions about how this is “similar to the seasonal flu” and give them some peace of mind. Won’t *they* feel silly.
When I was installing 5g wifi in beach condos back in 2003 I heard many of the same things from the condo bored members about the antennas. Actually came up with a standard response. Microwave antennas are much worse. Watt goes around comes around.
saw her interview. This is why Trump has pressers every day = to fight the fake news.
Latest on Ecuador - 7pm curfew now a 2pm curfew; twice weekly store trips based on license plate numbers; delivery drivers from 3 day wait to 17 day wait. now 3rd highest cases in SoAm. Free internet, no utility cut-offs. 3K infections and climbing, 1.5 hospital beds/1000 people.

Agree.
What are these grocery stores that Dr Scarf speaks of?
So...what gives?
“Our friends SIL here in GA just got diagnosed with covid 19. She feels somewhat sick. She asked the medical people what should she do. They shrugged and sent her home with no drugs or prescriptions. You tell me how serious it is.”
She’s (so far) in the luckier 80% of infected that don’t have serious or critical cases. Hopefully she stays that way, but there is no guarantee of it. If her case progresses beyond “mild” (which is any set of symptoms that does not require hospitalization) to serious or critical, well, that sucks. Will it change your mind about the disease? In the mean time, she simply isn’t a bad enough case for them to deal with. Just like most flu cases that seek medical attention, she was sent home to get better. Note that they did not tell her to go around infecting others to build up that herd immunity.
US deaths are well over 10,000 now, so why do you keep saying 7300?
Dang. At least the Equadorians get to go to the grocery store twice/week. Dr Scarf only lets us go once every two weeks.
And, their grocery delivery waits sound familiar.
Whew....no internet cut offs and no utility cut offs.
Le Mars residents hit the road to socialize during coronavirus pandemic (Iowa, 4/6/20)
Why, they’re these big, well-lit places where you can purchase food, and nowadays, you can even bring home more than the food to your family.
Dr. Scarf’s suggestion is prudent, once you wrap your head around it, like I had to. Hopefully it remains a mere suggestion — you never can tell when you’ll need to make an emergency quick trip.

women and men aren’t allowed out of their homes on the same day. If they violate their day, they get arrested. Logic being to allow only half of people out on any one day.
