The WHO has provided a second code, U07.2, for clinical or epidemiological diagnosis of COVID-19 where a laboratory confirmation is inconclusive or not available. Because laboratory test results are not typically reported on death certificates in the U.S., NCHS is not planning to implement U07.2 for mortality statistics

In this scenario, NCHS would expect to receive an updated record, since the code will likely result in R99. In this case, NCHS will ask the states to follow up to verify if test results confirmed that the decedent had COVID19.

I like the note under the death chart that says “Shaded area indicates uncertainty.” By the area the shaded area covers, it looks like it covers about 60% of the chart. But at least they are getting a bit more realistic. Am guessing even that number will get lower over the next couple of weeks.

Update: As of April 4, 2020, WA has seen 7,647 cases and 338 deaths.

I am not big on believing anyone’s predictions. We are at 10,000 dead in less than 2 months with just about a total US lockdown.
