A tiger at the Bronx Zoo has tested positive for COVID-19, the zoo said Sunday.

Nadia, a 4-year-old female Malayan tiger, tested positive for the virus while her sister Azul, two Amur tigers and three African lions developed a dry cough, the zoo said in a release.

It’s believed to be the first time a tiger has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, the Associated Press reported.

When we have a shortage of tests for COVID19, why are we wasting them on critters?

Well, animals are more important than that average. That is why they, politicians, and celebrities get tests.

I say bs on this tiger story.

If cats can get this thing and spread it, you may as well end the stay-in-place now. Then they’ll need to get serious about feral animals.

There is a program on Animal Planet channel called “The Zoo” that features the Bronx Zoo. I’m sure my wife has seen this tiger several times on it.

I’m a fan of tigers in general, but it would probably be a good idea to make sure every human who wants to be tested for COVID-19 can get tested before we start providing test kits to members of the animal kingdom.

Cats in general are susceptible to respiratory illnesses.

A really dumb question from a guy doesn’t own tigers~!

Why would you test a tiger for Corona?

How/why would you treat them if infected?

Its already been demonstrated that felines and ferrets are already a reservoir of the virus. Apparently that applies to large cats as well. The inference is a positive house cat that contacts a feral creates an almost infinite source.

1. Very carefully to see why they have a dry cough and temperature.
2. See #1

“Our cats were infected by a person caring for them who was asymptomatically infected with the virus or before that person developed symptoms.”
