Bicyclist hit by motorcycle on Bayshore Boulevard, both killed

TAMPA — A bicyclist and a motorcyclist were killed Saturday when they collided on Bayshore Boulevard, the scenic promenade that officials have labored to make safe after two previous high-profile tragedies.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. when a bicyclist was trying to cross the road in a crosswalk near Rome Avenue.

A motorcyclist, one of three who had been traveling north, hit the bicyclist. Tampa police said the motorcyclist, who was in their 30s, died at the scene.

The bicyclist, in their 50s, was pronounced dead later at a hospital. Police had not identified the victims by late Saturday afternoon.

Three bikers dressed in black I'd never ever seen before flew down our subdivision's main street here in Tampa just about a week ago. Coincidence. But there's a reason no one has been identified. This is sanctuary no-law enforcement Hillsborough County. Bikers here aren't the 60-year-old retirees. They're the 20-35 year-old dudes straight out of South America. Doing the construction work Americans just won't do. The bikers were seen pulling wheelies just prior to the accident.

So many things I read tell me the same thing. Live away from any large centers of population. They are nothing but trouble, multiple kinds of trouble.

This article is SO confusing! How many people were killed? How many people were riding the bicycle? How many people were riding the motorcycle?

“They” and “Their!” I was starting to get “Their drift” when to top it off the article claims the motorcycle was being driven on “its rear wheelS!” Is this some sort of gendered motorcycle or is it a powered tricycle?

Maybe the stories were cleaned up but the linked story makes no mention of the race or sexuality of those participating. And, when you get right down to it, what does it matter what race or sexuality they were?

What does matter is that folks were recreating outdoors when they are supposed to be inside. Secondly, the story says there was a “crowd” trying to offer assistance which might be commendable but is not “social distancing”.

I don’t know the current state of Florida’s or Tampa’s #stayathome edicts but it seems to me they aren’t being taken seriously if all these folks are milling about the park on motorcycles, bicycles, running and walking. Yet the story fails to address that.

As I read it, plural motorcyclists hit plural bicyclists.

No wonder there were deaths.

The story references several other deaths, these involving pedestrians hit in crosswalks, on that same drive. I don't know the area, but the story suggests the need for some strong traffic calming measures. An open boulevard right along the waterfront will attract a lot of pedestrian and bike traffic. It shouldn't be a speedway.

One of the witnesses, an attorney, identifies the killed bicyclist as a man. It's surprising that the clearly woke newspaper would quote such a triggering statement. I can only assume that the attorney will be headed to a reeducation camp.

I believe that it is not politically correct now to use “he” or “she”. I still use them but I am not politically correct. I also don't use “gay” for homosexual,queer, or lesbian.

A good friend of mine from high school moved to Tampa to take care of his sister who has dementia. He’s a fitness buff who turned 70 in January and bicycles every day. I’m going to sent this to him.
