Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, postal workers have been on the front lines, considered "essential workers" who must continue to do their jobs as usual while others stay home. But some lawmakers are warning that without more support, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) could completely shut down in the next few months, threatening the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

I No. Im not going to get the Chinese coronavirus from a licked letter. Its very simple: Open your mail, read it, dispose of it (or put it somewhere and it will be fine after a week); then wash your hands. Ive seen so many make such a big deal of this.

Wait, so what additional support does the post office need? It's not like they have no revenue, the mail is still the same. At least mine is. Cleaning/sanitizing mail? Maybe, but that's not going to be that big of an additional cost. The only reason I see the Post Office closing down is because everyone calls in sick and they have no people, but an infusion of cash isn't gonna fix that.

Cut benefits, cut delivery to three days a week, cut carriers by 50%. That should help a lot.
A small town postmaster does not need to be a GS-13. More like GS-9 maybe.
The time for the traditional post office has passed.
No sympathy.

You would think they would have a lot more business in these conditions.

Yep - mine is due the end of this month and I got the card in the mail Fri and mailed it in yesterday - since it’s all local mail system, I’m not expecting any problems - in a few days I’ll check my banking account to see if the check clears - then even if the sticker is delayed, I’ll have proof of renewal.
