It came out today that the beloved Captain did not inform either is operational task force commander or his administrative commander, CINCPACFLT, on his situation, actions taken or what support he needed. Similarly, since it is a nuclear powered carrier, one guesses that he also wasn't keeping the director of Naval Reactors informed of the impact of the CCP virus on the safe operation of a naval nuclear propulsion plant.

Any of these is a sin for which immediate relief can be expected. All at the same time??? Wow!

If he didn’t inform his TF commander, how come SecNav and CNO sent out a joint press statement on the 23rd informing the world that the Roosevelt would continue with their mission despite the Covid casualties?

There wasn’t really a problem with what was in the letter, but blindsiding the task force admiral would cement his exit. That admiral is normally assigned to the carrier and probably talks to the captain several times a day. It almost makes me think the captain wanted an out.
