Shenzhen has passed a law prohibiting the consumption and production of dog and cat flesh, with the city's government pointing to the close relationship that has developed between humans and these animals

A Chinese city has banned the dog and cat meat trade amid the coronavirus crisis.

Shenzhen passed the law prohibiting the consumption and production of dog and cat flesh.

The city went further than the Government's temporary closure of 'wet markets', where animals are sold, by permanently stopping the brutal trade.

The Covid-19 outbreak is believed to have started at the a 'wet market' in Wuhan, China.

The law is set to come into effect on May 1, the Daily Star reports.

A spokesman for the city's government said: "Dogs and cats as pets have established a much closer relationship with humans than all other animals, and banning the consumption of dogs and cats and other pets is a common practice in developed countries and in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The legislation also clarifies with species are permitted to be consumed, including pig, cattle, sheep, rabbit, and chicken.

Dr Peter Li, China policy specialist for animal protection charity Humane Society International, welcomed the news.

He said: “With Shenzhen taking the historic decision to become mainland China’s first city to ban dog and cat meat consumption, this really could be a watershed moment in efforts to end this brutal trade that kills an estimated 10 million dogs and 4 million cats in China every year.

The majority of these companion animals are stolen from people’s back yards or snatched from the streets, and are spirited away on the backs of trucks to be beaten to death in slaughterhouses and restaurants across China.

"Shenzhen is China’s fifth-largest city so although the dog meat trade is fairly

I don’t agree about dogs though. Humans evolved with dogs, and dogs working with us beat the neanderthals. No special has evolved to serve humans like dogs.

Dogs AND Horses. The Noble Animals. The US would be a remarkably different country without the contribution of both.

I’d love to see anyone doing this to animals subjected to having a propane torch played on their body (like they do to the animals alive) and then skewered alive like they do to animals. Any “thing” which could do that to an animal deserves the same treatment I DESPISE them and would spit on their struggling bodies. I doubt that Satan himself could be more cruel than these savages.

I wonder if there are laws in the US that ban eating dogs and cats. I know there is for horses, but horse meat is exported from the US (pretty sure it’s legal too).

The best salami is made from donkey meat. Mmmm-mmm!

“What’s wrong with eating bats?”

The Covid-19 virus contains about 90% of the genome of a coronavirus found in Horseshoe Bats.

“It is Bats and Pangolins that are the likely culprits IF the wet markets are indeed the source of the Wuhan Virus. And, not the Boi-Weapons Labs in that province.”

The two may be connected. There were rumors coming out of China that a lab worker in Wuxan was selling test animals to the wet market.

And the previous two viruses were from chickens and pigs. I didn’t see people stop eating them.

The bat soup review whence the photo originated, quoted below. Yup - tastes just like chicken:

http://yihsiukung.blogspot.com/2014/10/bat-soup.html
[ I would like to share one food that i never tried before in my life. It is “Bat Soup”.

Yes, it is a soup cook by bat; I know it sounds creepy maybe many of you had already beard that before. Have you very tried it before?

Let’s talk abut the Bat Soup now, bat soup is base on the soup cook by a whole bat. Most of the time when the restaurant serve the soup they don’t put the bat in the soup, therefore we won’t see the bat in the soup normally, but if we want to eat or to see the bat inside the soup, they will take off all the hair from the bat and cook it little bit and serve it to you.

There are 2 kind of bats, one is only eat the nectar and other one is eat the insects. the most of the popular one for soup is the one only eat the nectar, cause people believe that they eat all the nectar from the flowers they must be be smell and taste really special.

Wolfberry and ginger are the most common thing that you will see when you order one bat soup, if you choose the different type of the bat soup you will get different things in the soup. normally wolf berry and ginger are very popular with the bat soup.

Many people said, the bat soup taste more like a chicken soup and the meat of the bat...; yes, it’s just like chicken. The bat meat taste like chicken but more sweet and softy and little bit ginseng flavor. It is not spicy, sour and not bitter for the bat soup. The soup smell like Ginseng flavor chicken soup by some flower smell. Without the bat inside the soup it looks just like a chicken soup, very clear; once we add the bat inside the soup, somehow you might feel like it is a boneless chicken when you take a look closer you will know it is a bat. The bat is much softer than a normal chicken. And after we done the bat, we can take it out of the soup and open the wings for it and see how big that bat is. You if really wants to know how it taste like, I will say a boneless chicken soup with ginseng and a little bit of flower power or something like that.

The soup is unique because we don’t have many chance to see a bat in our life, not even to taste it. And more important is the flavor of the soup; although I said it taste like a chicken soup but the flavor of it is really special. Then flower smell and the sweet taste but not sugar, that is all why I think this soup is unique.

After i tried the Bat Soup,as I tell you before. It taste really like a Chicken soup. And very strong ginger taste and smell. the ginseng is just ok. The soup is not salty, it is tasty by a little slat and the sweet is more like honey bout not much. I pretty much enjoy the Bat Soup without the bat inside the soup. For some reason, the bat looks really creepy. The taste of the bat is a chicken taste, not much different than a chicken; and yes, the bat meat is much sweeter and softer. The meat and the soup is not sour and spicy therefore it is very popular for everyone.

I am not going to eat that again in normal time. If there are some people wants to try then I would like to go aging but not often. two reasons, first, the soup is not easy to get and the second reason will be the Bat. The Bat is really weird.

This soup taste really balance and gentle but not appealing is not enough. Because it is too similar to chicken soup. Only if you can taste the flower sweet flavor in the meat and the soup. otherwise its just like a chicken soup.

From this experience, I learn how to taste the food more deep or more inside. For example, normally its not easy for me to tell what is the different between chicken meat and bat meat. After this experience, I can tell the difference and try to taste it more carefully and deeper. Somehow, I also mean the different type of animals will give the different taste after we cook it. Like the bat, if the bat is only eat the nectar then the meat will be more sweet. That is a good class for me.]

Good ol’ Lindsay giving DS and China cover by demanding that these wet markets, which are disgusting but likely have had nothing to do with this or the previous SARS epidemics. China makes that minor move and we are supposed to somehow have confidence in them again.

Well Coronavirus’s tend to come from bats not cats and dogs...

Personally I can’t imagine short of starvation choosing to eat a dog.. let alone cook them while they are still alive which some do in China.. and other parts of Asia. Couldn’t imagine doing that to any animal honestly.. other than perhaps shellfish or muscles.. but I don’t think this will do much about Corona.
