You probably have a commemorative compass. The maker, Star Compass of Boston, started production in 1905.

I think you may be right. It works well, is made for use, but likely not purpose-made for any particular boat or ship. I don’t know of too many shipping companies which would be willing to rebuild a ship under the name of one that went down. Too many superstitious sailors.
