A Hempfield man who spent nearly two years in jail awaiting trial for obstructing traffic on his bicycle has been arrested again, this time for allegedly throwing a traffic cone into a flooded creek in Greensburg.

City police said security footage showed David Smith, 60, riding his bike at Lynch Field last Saturday evening.

Police were monitoring the cameras because heavy rainfall was causing the field to flood. An officer watched as Smith rode his bike on the track surrounding the field, picked up a traffic cone, rode with it to a nearby pedestrian bridge, and threw it into Jack’s Run Creek, according to police.

Lynch Field is closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The officer drove to the field while a dispatcher continued to watch the camera. The officer quickly found and confronted Smith.

Police charged Smith with theft, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, and scattering rubbish.

Went to my friend who owns a hardware store looking for a bunch of Highway cones. He said he assumed most people just pick them up for free on the roadside.

Our town was founded in 1787 and named for American Revolutionary War General Nathanael Greene.

In addition to being one of Washington's most competent generals, his wife Kitty often followed the army with him and delighted the rank and file by helping to serve chow and the like and dancing with the other officers including, on occasion, General Washington himself.

Reminds me of an old coot in my hometown known as ‘cussin’ Vern, who rode a beat up moped and swore profusely at anyone who dared to pass him on the road.

LOL. And all this time, I thought Mayberry was just a Hollywood creation.

"Mayberry" was a way of life for enormous swaths of America.

They thought Miami Vice was just a Hollywood creation.

I lived 12 years in Columbia, MD. The neighborhood is officially know as Long Run. There is a greenbelt all along the stream known as Long Run, with a bike trail built along it’s entire 5 or 6 mile length (is that long enough to merit the name Long?). I walked it many times.

That part of Maryland, at least, also calls them run.

I think it is an original 13 colonies thing. Once you drive about 75 miles west of me into Ohio, they don’t call them Runs anymore.
