Worldometer’s Coronavirus website is very useful - Italy’s deaths appears to be on the decline. We aren’t that many days behind them - some experts say somewhere between 1-2 weeks behind.

What could we have done differently? State and local jurisdictions take their lead from the CDC. The CDC should have recommended the old and those with weakened immune system isolate themselves and let everyone else live their lives. The vulnerability of the old and already sick to Coronavirus was well known for many weeks. If the healthy live their lives normally then the healthy would develop immunity and the herd immunity (which protects the vulnerable) would kick in much faster. Sweden especially seems to be going this route. We will see how many more or fewer deaths they have compared to everywhere else.

This will, when we look at the death count in the end, be similar to a flu season.

My concern is that if the lockdown’s don’t ease up in a week or two at the most, civil unrest kicks in. And that can ramp up a lot faster than this virus.

The mortality rate of the seasonal flu vs CV19 can certainly be calculated, but the lethality difference can’t be accurately determined without a controlled study.

This was already established to all be incorrect, long before today. Far more than just the old are taking up the ICU beds because of this. Countries don't have the issues they are having with this virus that occurs with the seasonal flu - not anywhere close. The "total death count" in the end is not the issue. Italy's deaths are now going down after weeks of a total lockdown to mitigate further spread of the virus after things spiraled completely out of control beyond their capacity to handle. That doesn't happen with the seasonal flu - you know that by now. So why post this?

I guess now you are preparing to formulate your argument if the mitigation efforts are successful - that the very success of mitigation was proof it was never needed. You people just don't stop. No amount of reality or fact phases you in the least.

And not a single reply pointing this out?! The is not a decline. There are a couple of outliers where the daily death count increase went nuts and settled back.
