To all medical professionals around the world:

My name is Dr. Zev Zelenko and I practice medicine in Monroe, NY. For the last 16 years, I have cared for approximately 75% of the adult population of Kiryas Joel, which is a very close knit community of approximately 35,000 people in which the infection spread rapidly and unchecked prior to the imposition of social distancing.

As of today my team has tested approximately 200 people from this community for Covid-19, and 65% of the results have been positive. If extrapolated to the entire community, that means more than 20,000 people are infected at the present time. Of this group, I estimate that there are 1500 patients who are in the high-risk category (i.e. >60, immunocompromised, comorbidities, etc).

Given the urgency of the situation, I developed the following treatment protocol in the pre-hospital setting and have seen only positive results:

1. Any patient with shortness of breath regardless of age is treated.

2. Any patient in the high-risk category even with just mild symptoms is treated.

3. Young, healthy and low risk patients even with symptoms are not treated (unless their circumstances change and they fall into category 1 or 2).

My out-patient treatment regimen is as follows:

1. Hydroxychloroquine 200mg twice a day for 5 days

2. Azithromycin 500mg once a day for 5 days

3. Zinc sulfate 220mg once a day for 5 days

The rationale for my treatment plan is as follows. I combined the data available from China and South Korea with the recent study published from France (sites available on request). We know that hydroxychloroquine helps Zinc enter the cell. We know that Zinc slows viral replication within the cell. Regarding the use of azithromycin, I postulate it prevents secondary bacterial infections. These three drugs are well known and usually well tolerated, hence the risk to the patient is low.

Since last Thursday, my team has treated approximately 350 patients in Kiryas Joel and another 150 patients in other areas of New York with the above regimen.

Of this group and the information provided to me by affiliated medical teams, we have had ZERO deaths, ZERO hospitalizations, and ZERO intubations. In addition, I have not heard of any negative side effects other than approximately 10% of patients with temporary nausea and diarrhea.

In sum, my urgent recommendation is to initiate treatment in the outpatient setting as soon as possible in accordance with the above. Based on my direct experience, it prevents acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), prevents the need for hospitalization and saves lives.

That's not entirely true because the hippie doctor is trying to mislead the public to make him look a lot better than he is. Of the 1291 treated for a period of 4 days or more at that hospital, 1 died. They're not including everyone they treated at the hospital with that combination who died at 3 days or less. They're comparing two entirely different things to make a headline. Since most of their deaths occur at 3 days or less, that celebrity doctor is making it look better than it actually is which is why he chose that cutoff. The average hospital stay is short anyway and not everyone at that hospital is even an inpatient! Many aren't because they're mild cases! In every country the majority aren't hospitalized and survive. He's including these people here. Even so, they've had 16 people die from coronavirus at that hospital and per the hospital every one of them was treated with this combination which isn't made clear on the website. The doctor leading the hospital is being deliberately misleading with his statistics. Deliberately. I looked into that hospital some more and a few interesting things pop up. They have a statement that they're treating anyone with coronavirus with that combination so there's no control group so it's not clear at all that it works. They're testing everyone who comes to that hospital and a lot more besides but they're selecting who they treat to the hospital ie they're testing people at the hospital who come back positive but who are not being treated at the hospital. It seems entirely possible that they're selecting the better off patients. Actually, that's exactly what's happening. Unlike in an American context, not all of the patients treated in that hospital are inpatients. You also need to be healthy enough to go to that hospital yourself. If you're not and call an ambulance, the ambulance will take you elsewhere because of how the system works in France. So, there are many patients with mild cases receiving this treatment. The hippie doctor is including them to make his statistics look better. Also, because this hospital does much of the testing for the region he gets visibility on the patients and can choose which ones they want. The doctor is also 'interesting' and has made that hospital into a kind of personality cult for himself. Some French have picked up on this and are calling the doctor and the hospital out. Also, he's apparently not including earlier deaths where he treated people with this . Here's a good run down on how he's being deliberately misleading. It's in French but you can use google translate. The treatment might work but what this doctor is doing is building a fan base. He needs to stop being deliberately misleading.
