I grilled up some burgers today.
Five Guys Six Feet Apart for Burgers
Florida man times five!
Went one time. Overpriced, mediocre, Uber filthy.
LOL at the pun! Pun of the Year!
I get a pound of grass fed ground beef and cut it in half. Then I put each half in a Tupperware hamburger press like below and have two perfect 8-oz patties.
I coat the patties in dry rub of salt, pepper and other seasonings like onion or garlic powder.. Let sit to room temperature. Then put on grill, only flipping once. Three and a half minutes first side and about three minutes on the other.
Meanwhile, I've got onions, garlic and jalapeno peppers on the grill. After they are cooked, I drizzle in olive oil and put on the burgers in a potato bun. Top with a thick slice (or two) of swiss cheese and there you have your perfect burgers!

I consider Five Guys to be “okay” fast food and enjoy it a couple times a year. Burger is decent and fresh-cut fries are pretty good. What bugs me a little is the cost. It seems that a burger, fries and soda there total out to around $13-14. There are plenty of sit-down places where you can get a similar meal for a similar price. It’s a little irritating that they’re charging sit-down prices for fast food.
I went by McDonald’s this morning for an Egg McMuffin and hash browns. I brought them home, microwaved them for 20 seconds and ate. The heat from microwaving should kill any viruses, and I get a hot breakfast while the wife sleeps in.
There’s a Five Guys less than a mile from my home. There’s a Smashburger even closer, and while I’ve eaten at 5 Guys a few times, I really prefer Smashburger.
They give you a monstrous serving of fries at Five Guys, and as I recall they were quite good, but I really prefer Smashburger’s “Smashfries,” which are seasoned with rosemary.

Making sure people are informed. It could just be me.
I'm hooked on burger joints, the Waffle House, a couple of truck stop restaurants, McCormick & Schmits, Lawry's The Prime Rib (Las Vegas), and family-owned Italian restaurants...
Field report from the desert southwest metro PHX area:
After 4 days of self imposed home confinement, I went to our closest local eatery last night, driving about six blocks from home, to pick up a phoned in order.
Don’s NY Pizza, of Peoria, AZ, had about a dozen cars parked along the sidewalk surrounding the business with customers waiting in their cars for their orders to be ready. One couple was inside ordering at the counter, so I stood outside until they were done. As they left, another customer entered the lobby using a different entryway, so I remained outside until the customer had finished placing his order. He repositioned himself about 25 feet away from the counter, permitting plenty of space for me to enter and interface with the proprietors. Seeing this gesture, I then went inside the business, picked up my order and promptly left.
An elderly gentleman that had just left the building when I first pulled up, was heading back inside the lobby and held the door open for me, making a joke about me saving some of one of the two liter bottles of soda I had, for him.
All in all, a fairly uneventful trip that carried little risk and other than people self distancing themselves, was ordinary in every other way.
5 Guys are good! Red Robin is great... depends on the quality you want...
