Why? Because it’s really not about those 47 fools.
It’s the other folks they’ll be walking around and possibly infecting. I have a medical condition that makes it hard for me to be in cold places, eat cold food, breath cold air... My beloved usually runs all the errands while I happily sit in the warmth of the vehicle, just happy to get out at all. I manage to get to the gym twice a week as a must because I’m truly trying to get in a better physical condition. I bundle up and am an in-out person and my trainer knows that I don’t get near folks.
On the odd occasion that I actually go into a store in the past I’ve been sure to bundle up like I’m Nanook of the North. Summer and Winter.
So. On the very few times I’m near a person I sure as poop don’t want to be near some idiot who’s laughing about getting something that could wipe me out.
They WANT to risk death? Fine. Give them several tall glasses of poison and tell them to have a go at it. Make it a full fledged Suicide, or Russian Roulette. (If you believe in Free Will on absolutely every degree this should pass your approval.) Don’t give them the excuse of “I didn’t expect it to happen,” if they cause someone they love or even a stranger to end up on a ventilator.
I’ll get off my soapbox at this time.
Then you do not understand how disease works. Your body is full of diseases that you are immune to but others may not be, yet you go about your business daily oblivious to this reality.
You personally have more than likely given the flu or the common cold to someone else during your lifetime. We all have.

I have no idea if my T-cells and white blood cells can beat the current flu strain called COVID-19. But then, none of us do until our body, through the wonderful tool called our immune system, fights it off or...doesn’t.
All I can tell you is this virus is akin to every type of flu strain that has ever existed. Maybe the symptoms are more acute in this one (i.e. the need for a ventilator for those with acute symptoms) but it is doing exactly what all flu viruses do. It attacked everyone but the ones who are mostly succumbing to it are old, who usually have other conditions, and the young who have undeveloped immune systems. Of course, as with all viruses, there are instances of the healthy succumbing to it as well.

I agree that 47 selfish idiots are still 47 selfish idiots. I guess my position is in a free society, selfish idiots have the freedom to choose to be so.
On the flip side, though, those who are not ‘selfish idiots’ have a choice to avoid or shun those who are.
In short, I am a believer of personal choice as opposed to government imposed dictate enforced through the monopoly of force the government has.

However, to end this back and forth, life has learned to survive since the beginning of time and learning to fend off viruses is just one of the many amazing abilities if the human body. If this process did not happen and did not continue to happen, then you would have died from the common cold long ago.
