Something odd there. My husband and I both have COPD - his is severe and mine less so. Our first doctor visits for coughs resulted in immediate chest xrays and prompt diagnosis. Why was this patient of the doctor battling a chronic cough for years? And why would a medical doctor need to borrow an oxygen pulse meter from his office? I’ve bought them online for less than $25.00 and we both carry them.

I have an old high school friend who lives in FL and he’s been fighting a chronic cough for months now and he’s been through all kinds of testing but without a diagnosis. Not a word about the above patient undergoing tests.

It doesn't sound as if the doctor is on a ventilator. At 63 and a marathon runner I would think that he stands a good chance of coming out okay.

My wife and I have a dear 79-year-old friend who is a relatively recent widow and lives alone. She is quite religious and has a very fatalistic approach to life. I'm sure that she is looking forward to joining her husband in a better life.

The problem that worries me is that her somewhat nonchalant approach to social distancing may well expose her much more than I would deem prudent. She shops for herself daily (because she doesn't cook much any more) and enjoys talking to the people in line at the stores.

I think she did take seriously my pointing out that her behavior could result in passing the virus on to her family members or others. Her behavior could cut short the lives of others who are not yet ready to meet their maker.
