Considering it was intended to be seamless with regard to time, this was part of the accuracy to this vet of more modern war.

When I was preparing to go to what became the first Gulf war, my WW2 veteran uncle told me that I was going to be bored most of the time. He repeated the oft-heard story of his own battle wound as an example; busy about a boring task, interrupted by the sound of an incoming shell.

He was right. He had a more— “exciting” time during his war then I did in mine. It taught me to try to keep my mind occupied, which I think has stood me well in the after years.

So, this in-real-time film with long stretches of (seemingly) nothing going on rang very true to me.

No matter how good the movie is, I will not buy or rent this or any other movie about WWI or WWII.

I find that period of history to be a perfect example of how stupid humans can be in large groups and the stupidity did not stop until well over 100 million people were killed from 1914 to 1945 in a thing called war.

The stupidity that is happening now with the overreaction to “the yearly flu” is just this generation’s example of people in large groups being stupid.

It's a mere fact. React with anger, react with curiosity... that's your choice.

Funny aside: my doctor's name was Richard Kimball at Camp Pendleton Navy Hospital circa 1967. He did great work but had no sense of humor.

We'd point out the one-armed men to him but he'd just glare at us in return.

If you want an English made movie long on style the old Battle of Britain with Michael Cain and Christopher Plummer is hard to beat .

So sorry to hear about your illness. But thank you for your well-considered opinion about the movie. When I watched, I appreciated the absence of the ever-present progressive pc sermonizing or other messaging. My favorite part outsider the opening 20 minutes was when the Devons sat, reflectively, before the fateful attack for “Wayfaring Stranger.” Such an appropriate piece at that moment.

*** “1917 sucked. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen in that movie but it never did” ***

Many years ago in College I had to read “War and Peace” it was that same feeling but it lasted an entire Semester
