So trust almost no one at this point seems like a good idea.

It has everything to do with China’s disgusting wet markets that are not regulated. Combine bats, pigs, snakes, rats, etc with little public hygiene and you have the perfect reservoir for creating nasty new pathogens.
Frankly, there’s no telling how many of the world’s respiratory crud is brewed in Asia.
