” As of Wednesday night, just 21 states have ordered people to stay at home, and most of those are states with Democratic governors.”

And they also account for a big majority of US GDP.

More than 50,000 Americans overseas are seeking help getting home

The scramble to get Americans home while it’s still possible comes as the State Department is finding the coronavirus striking its own workforce.

William Walters, acting deputy chief medical officer for the State Department, said the agency is aware of 58 confirmed cases in overseas posts. One bureau alone has 33 staffers who have tested positive, though Walters did not identify which posts have been hit hardest. In the United States, officials have identified 16 cases in five cities, he said.

Walters noted that the State Department has 75,000 employees, including local staff in embassies and consulates, so the virus has struck a rate of one in 1,000 staffers. He said they have been aggressively encouraging social distancing and teleworking.

COVID-19: ‘South Korea recovery rate nearly 45%’

Death toll in South Korea now at 132, less than 5,000 patients under treatment

The recovery rate for coronavirus patients in South Korea is over 44%, local media reported Thursday.

According to daily Korea Herald, 4,144 COVID-19 patients — 44.8% of South Korea’s total 9,421 cases — have “made full recoveries” since the country reported its first case on Jan. 20.

The number of cases reached 9,421 after 104 more were confirmed by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday, along with six fatalities that raised the death toll to 132, Yonhap News Agency reported.

This was the 15th consecutive day that South Korea reported 100 or less cases.

A total of 4,966 patients remain under treatment, 56 of them in critical condition, while 414 were discharged from hospitals on Thursday.
