I am the oldest of five and we did NOT have a lot growing up.

We threw nothing out if it was at all usable.

Course, my parents grew up during the depression and between that how tight things were, that was our lifestyle.

I’m still like that today. I hate getting rid of stuff with a passion and it makes it hard to part with stuff I really don’t need or use.

As far as spare parts, mr. mm and I have been discussing that and we have been doing the same as you. I am also stocking up on canning jar lids, which are generally an overlooked item in panic buying times.

So few people know how to can these days that it’s not hard to find them.

Since this began with the quarantine of Wuhan, I’ve picked up several boxes of those every time I was out or placed an order somewhere that sold them.

I wish I learned while my mom and dad canned massively yearly for over 20 years. I just helped prepare the food for canning.
