I believe water purification is where I am lacking the most. I have filtering for about 20k gallons. I have studied a DIY filter system where charcoal and other filtration is used and then water is treated with chlorine. After so many gallons, you clean out and replace filter medium.

Like you I have a swimming pool (about 35K gallons) and two stock tanks, one about 4 acres when full and the other about 1 acre, so I have not really got too excited about the installing the Buffalo manual pump.

Yeah living in a rural setting the way we do always keeps us with extra food stores. When all my kids moved out, I converted the billiard (pool table) room into our prepping storage. Started slowly filling it up. We have 98 linear feet of shelving, 2 feet deep that reach to the ceiling and THEY are full. We can chicken, beef and deer meat. My wife is a canning fool when it comes to vegetables and during growing season we are either canning or dehydrating.

Prepping has really become a hobby for us.

We bought extra filters for the Berkey. I forget how many thousands of gallons could be processed. But @ a gallon per day for each of us, we would still have spare unused filters when we are both 6 feet under.

I think a weakness in our system would be in case of earth quakes. We probably need to put something on each shelf to keep stuff from jiggling off the shelves.
