Actually I don’t think Congressmen, Senators or Presidents should receive any pay at all!
Who wants someone in office who cannot make enough of a success of themselves to enable them to take a few years out of their comfortable lives to serve their country?
It was always supposed to be a few years of service NOT a stinkin career where they somehow magically manage to go from rags to riches!

No law varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.
Although it was passed to keep them from giving themselves instant raises, it also works for pay cuts.

Big deal. A junior congress person makes about $170,000 a year. You can more or less live on that in the DC metro where tiny, crappy houses start at $700,000.
Men and women in congress from some of the poorest locations in the country are MULTI-MILLIONAIRES. How did they get that?
Do the math. Our congress is a bastion of evil thieves.
