Looks like it.
What I hope is not done is Cuomo’s clinical trials of hydroxychloroquine do not fudge the numbers to make it look like it won’t work. Thus, a sabotage of Trump’s effort to fight the virus.
500 is a real study. As in serious science. It is entirely ethical to break the study for ethical reasons and has been done before. If true, huge. I hope its true for this guys sake because he is literally laying his license on the line. This has to be taken seriously.
Good to see this being reported (although I think they’re wrong that the French study Trump alluded to only involved six subjects. IIRC it was actually 24.)
RE: IIRC it was actually 24.
It was 36. Six of them departed the trials as I recall.
The issue is current shortages. Yes, the solution is increased supply, but until then? Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe they have plenty, but I’ve been reading to the contrary.
“WHY?????.”
Because Trump must be resisted, even if people die.
Thanks. I had missed this. Great to see:
So the FDA approves the drug for off label use, but the governor says no to anybody who isn't in a study??
Smart man
...he has been using a cocktail of drugs: hydroxychloroquine, in combination with azithromycin an antibiotic to treat secondary infections and zinc sulfate...
***************
Good move adding the zinc IMO. The other drugs work by helping zinc enter the cell but there has to be adequate zinc in the bloodstream in the first place. The other day I saw a report where the drugs were ineffective in a couple of cases and I wondered if the patients may have been low on zinc.
On Monday evening, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo released an executive order that effectively ended pharmacists ability to prescribe hydroxychloroquine for use in treating Covid-19, and prohibited any experimental use of the drug outside of state-approved clinical trials.
WHY?????.............@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
The use of “generic” drugs to fight this virus at a cost of .50 a dose versus a “new drug fast tracked to market” with a manufacturers exclusive right to proceeds from all production and sold at even $5 a dose means HUGE BIG PHARMA PROFITS with the cost Born by the Fed through phase IV package by congress (next bill in line)!
No wonder FDA/CDC/BIG PHARMA fighting quinine/z-PAC
POTUS is still in there fighting ALL SIDES in this battle. The difference is I believe God is on our side and that gives us THE MAJORITY!
MAGA! WWG1WGA!
So wait now the clinical trials in NY wont happen??

~ well in that case, drive your butt over to New Jersey!
Those are good questions. I’m hoping it sounds worse than it is and there’s a sensible explanation.
I do notice the order specifically ends “pharmacists’” ability to prescribe hydroxychloroquine. It doesn’t say “doctors’”. Maybe they’re trying to prevent a run on the drug due to people getting scrips directly from pharmacists with no doctor in the loop. Some states allow pharmacists to prescribe certain drugs. Not sure what the law is in NY.
As for prohibiting experimental use, I wonder if that would include the currently allowed off-label use. If so that’s a problem. If not, which I hope is the case, then I’d guess their intent is to prevent a potentially confusing flood of experimental results from various testing outfits.
Here is the language:
No pharmacist shall dispense hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine except when written as prescribed for an FDA-approved indication; or as part of a state approved clinical trial related to COVID-19 for a patient who has tested positive for COVID-19, with such test result documented as part of the prescription. No other experimental or prophylactic use shall be permitted, and any permitted prescription is limited to one fourteen day prescription with no refills.

Black market is going to explode and desperate people will be robbing pharmacies.
Hm, not liking that language. Sounds like they really do intend to prohibit “off-label” use and restrict only to state approved testing.
The silver lining may be that the “clinical trial” that was slated to begin today involves a number of doses sufficient to treat about 10,000 people. In other words, it’s really a round of treatment and only nominally a “trial”. It’s just that outcomes will be tracked and it will be done under the umbrella of state authority. If they do it right, then it should be the functional equivalent of just letting doctors prescribe as they see fit but with a little more tracking documentation required.
