"Last night was night 3. They are still not done. I can’t even see progress, but the machines have been loud."

I dedicate poems to them

Sounds In The Night

We hear sounds in the night of work being done,
By toilers and strugglers deprived of our sun.
It is only our comfort that compels them to hide,
As we with our loved ones and treasures abide.

In darkness they toil to repair our worn roads,
Inexorable time limits act as their goads,
They sweat and curse softly the task made so vile,
By shadow enduring the whole of the while.

Deprived of the sun for the task they perform,
In making the broken things newly conform,
To a sullen onrushing of scurrilous knaves,
Turned out of their beds as if out of their graves.

The zombies of daylight come stumbling out,
As night-working elves shrink well back from the rout,
Too soon they’ll return to assess once again,
The damages done by the legions of men.

Sisyphean tasks will await the next night,
Yet they willingly come back again to the fight,
Be blessed, oh ye workers and toilers unseen,
By the sunned-upon creatures of colorful scene.

Let children’s cries and birdsong be,
The lullaby of slumber free,
From dark concerns and matters best,
Attended to after proper rest.

It's my way of getting even with them.

Morning, all. We went on a kayak trip. Birds, dolphins, local ecology.

On the shadows thing, these arc-lights are bright. I’m up on the 4th floor and we still have too much light coming in with the blinds turned.

I did the kayak thing in Monterey Bay once. We had sea otters, but no dolphins.

We’re going to lounge around for a while and then maybe go somewhere.

I probably wanted to do the kayaking thing when I was young, but I don’t think I have the upper body strength I would need for it now. Still, kayaking looks exciting!

If I remember my beachgoing days as a yout in Flordia we would do nothing on the sand, then do nothing in the water, then repeat. If we were feeling really plucky and the lines weren’t too long we would do nothing in line for a soft-serve and then go back to doing nothing in the sand.

Seriously good times. I’m surprised I’m not one giant melanoma patch.

Would anyone like some zucchini?

The kudzu of vegetables...

One of your zucchini is getting frisky.

Maybe that’s why you have so many.

Yep. Sounds like my days in the Rockies. Climb the foothills, sit and do nothing, go for a swim in the park pool, sit and do nothing, repeat. Endless summer days.

Skin spots, but no melanoma. But kids today don’t know the meaning of the phrase, “getting a tan.” ;o]

Exactly why I don’t plant zucchini. There are enough foolhardy neighbors who plant entire long rows of them.

I usually shred them and make them into bread. I think I fried them once when the kids were still home, but I don’t do much of anything like that, these days.

Yesterday, I made a roast, but it was so big that it wasn’t done until just before I went to bed. I got up around 1900 and put it in the fridge, and was only up for about an hour (a record) and was able to go back to sleep.

So today, I’ll divide the roast and vegetables and freeze them. There is nothing else to do with all that food.

I’m afraid I have to go buy some plastic containers, on the off chance that I might want to share some with a neighbor I don’t know. Or Brian, who keeps the clubhouse clean and neat.

Yesterday the Dismally Inept Lawn Service came and planted sod between my sidewalk and Rocky’s. For some reason that patch died out. So now, it’s very beautiful!
