It's hard to do all the fun little things when SOME people keep expecting you to WORK. <glaring at SOME people>

You win. But I was at the beach, so I win.

Yes, and SOME people should know better than to interfere, expecting you to WORK when you’re having fun! ;o]

Yes, there is that! And I was at the post office when ArGee got it, so I lost! But Kara is excited to wait for the DVDs, as she and her husband have been re-roofing their house. It’s been a massively hugh job.

We’ll get some repairs to our roof this fall.

"We’ll get some repairs to our roof this fall."

I've been thinking about doing that myself. The last time I shingled it was a few decades ago. It's time again, but the roof is more ready for it than I am.

I like chalklining the layout, to keep everything nice and straight. The last time, I had to substitute twine for the chalkline because it was getting too dark to see the lines otherwise.

It took a lot of shingles, and a lot of nails. At least I have enough nails left over from the last time. I had bought a fifty-pound box.

Kara and her hubby had to strip the roof down to the rafters in places, and replace a couple of those, then they had to put particle board on, then rain barrier, then whatever came next, then shingles. Some of the supporting joints (I forget what they are called) under the larger eaves had to be made because they were rotted out, so it has been a major undertaking.

They will not get finished before winter sets in in northern ID. I believe it is a three bedroom house, originally, with a basement, but it was built at a time when rooms were large so the house has quite a few square feet of roof to cover.

Last year, it was the foundation. Her husband works full time, so it has been a real challenge. She said they finally got rid of the construction dumpster in front of their house!

My plan is to call my insurance company and ask them to recommend a roofer. They already had an adjuster look it over , and the estimate was about $650.

Good morning.

I don’t know what this roof has cost them, (family link or no) but I don’t imagine it was cheap. Their house has been paid for for at least 15 years (her oldest three were still in grade school) so they had to save up in order to do this. Her mother, (the late, dearly lamented Ann) was a great teacher of household finances, so this is not surprising.

They drive used cars, and travel seldom, but she does a massive amount of canning and preserving in the harvest months. I’d love to live closer to her but time and circumstance... ;o]

I kind of like helping local people who feed their families by doing that sort of thing to get another family-feeding job.

When I was younger, I liked to see the results of a job well done. Those were rarely DIY jobs.

Happy Friday!

Those words probably mean more when yesterday and tomorrow weren’t beach days, but there it is.

Glad to see you’re still with us!

Well thamks and back at you....down here a bird has been singing Da Vinci, Da Vinci, Da Vinci...every five minutes or so since dawn. Sounds sweet, but what does it mean?

I am still somewhere.

Puppy made grumbly noises around 4 so I put her out.

It was no emergency. She’s probably tired of the road work outside our window every night. I know I am.

Last night was night 3. They are still not done. I can’t even see progress, but the machines have been loud.

Good morning!

Never trust a bird that sings “Da Vinci, Da Vinci, Da Vinci.” They probably want you to pay them for their singing! :o]

My next question was going to be about Puppy, so thanks for anticipating my query.

The only “road” stuff we had was a few weeks ago when they dug up the sprinkler system at the entrance to this place. They put down fist-sized stones to cover their mess and all we have now is the occasional very large truck dropping off children at the day care center across the street.

I don’t envy you, or Puppy.

Well, I haven’t watched any birds since I was around 10, so I have no clue what’s wrong with birds, these days! LOL!
