What should I do in each case. I am 81 and healthy. My property taxes are due end of March, no gov. word of delays, must go to banks and shift money. Go to designated bank to make payments. Don’t trust the mails because of serious recent mistakes here. Also complaints about repairs needed at my country cabin by the “Association”. Never got their notice sent in Sept. Was contacted in Dec. but given until April 1st to correct conditions. Two weeks ago requested extension to April 30th. They gave me until April 15. Travel in VA and WV required. What should I do, remind them that my children and lawyer are in communication and will ASSociation take me home if I get sick while there?
Check to see if your county has ability to pay on line. I can pay Real Estate and Personal Property taxes on line from any bank account that I have—all I need is the routing number and account number. The routing number is a 9 digit number found on the bottom left hand side of the check.
I am also able to transfer money from any of my bank accounts to another bank or an account at the same bank. In addition all the banks that I use even in this small town of 3000 people have some form of bill pay which can send a check to anyone you need them to.
I have no experience dealing with Associations. Though it costs money, I’d be tempted to have my lawyer deal with them for additional time. Any lawyer worth his salt, should be able to easily do that.
When I had property that was far away, I made sure to have good contacts that did repairs and stuff like that — so all I had to do was call them on the phone, and they would take care of it and send me the bill.
Hope this helps.
