An Israeli doctor working in the coronavirus epicentre of northern Italy said medics are no longer allowed to give respirators to anyone aged over 60.
Dr Gal Peleg - who works in Parma, Italy - said artificial respiratory machines are so low in numbers access must be limited.
The coronavirus death toll in Italy's worst-hit region has surpassed 3,450 in the last 24 hours after a rise of 360 fatalities in Lombardy.
Dr Peleg said his department makes sure terminally-ill coronavirus patients can say goodbye to their loved ones despite strict quarantine rules, N12 reports.

Well, I’m screwed if this comes to the US.
Do you write your last will and testament, just in case?
That won’t happen in the US. 3M, and other companies, are ramping up production of the masks.
This goes to show that public healthcare systems are only good for GP level care. They cannot handle crisis care situations.
Some folks here won’t believe this is real until they get infected, sick, and then care is denied to _them_.
It is called solipsism, it is highly infectious, and there is no known cure.
[Well, Im screwed if this comes to the US.]
I know. It is hard to believe how bad it may get.
Given that those over 60 are far more likely to need respirators due to coronavirus than those under 60, I don’t understand the logic. I guess health rationing under socialized medicine comes with its own bizarre logic.
Old people have lived their lives and contribute less than young people.
That’s the rationality.
There was a movie about this a while back...
SENIORS! Stock up on HOMEMADE POTATO SOUP...
Great-grandmother, 90, who got coronavirus at Washington care home where 35 have died and said goodbye to her family is now recovering - and credits her homemade potato SOUP for helping her fight it

I thought the Hippocratic oath said otherwise ...
Triage has very clear rules when there are limited resources.
It is not age per se, it is the overall probability of the person becoming fully healthy and functional after the treatment.
Age is just a tie-breaker at that point.
Just to be clear—if there is a rule like “nobody over 60” that means there are a whole bunch of folks under 60 who won’t be getting the treatment either.
Watch the U.S. numbers each day for a more accurate picture of what’s happening. Only openness (like Glasnost) will motivate people soon enough to stay home and keep their distance from others. Otherwise, the disease will make itself even more clear to all only a few days too late.

Good point.
I’d suggest that Trump is still more than pulling his weight at 73.
All those many years ago Sarah Palin was so very correct, so very prescient when she told all of America that along with Gov’t Controlled Healthcare there will be Death Panels.
They will decide who gets treatment. And, who doesn’t. The Hippocratic Oath will be long gone. A thing of the past.
A faceless, soulless gov’t will make all life and death decisions for you. And, the average Joe will always be on the losing end of that decision making process.
Are the Italians using hydroxychloroquine?
Have the Italians been moving patients out of these dismally overcrowded hospitals to other hospitals in the south? It sounds like the disaster is stemming from overcrowded hospitals in the north so why not chopper patients south?
