Reminds me of the story of Stalin taking a live chicken and pulling out all it's feathers, torturing it, then setting it on the floor - - all to show his fellow thugs in the room that the chicken would follow him around the room.

It was his 'proof' to the room what they could get away with in their dealings with the everyday good Russian people.

Some cultures put 'Thomas Jefferson types in as their leaders - - some cultures put Charlie Manson types in as their leaders. Same young traveler as in prior post comes from escapees from Stalin. If you picked up a piece of barley or wheat and didn’t take it to the wagon or whatever was carrying your own barley/wheat that you grew (and Stalin seized), the ‘police’ would shoot you in the head.

I remember thinking that Stalin had to be seriously sick to look over and sign the lists of 1,000/day to go kill. Everyday. That adds up and would be tedious.
