Those in the older age group were heavy smokers which contributed to their preexisting conditions. More men smoked than women. Their smoking habit was over many years. To add to their vulnerability is the decline of their immune system. Also, some were taking drugs to suppress their immune system so that their body would not reject implants made necessary by their tobacco and alcohol use. It is ironic that Italy with its single-payer system had a large population of people with poor care of their own health.

About a week ago, some Italian results indicated 95-percent of victims were over the age of 70. One out of three victims had blood pressure medication going on, and one out of three had some form of diabetes.
Same numbers game going on in Germany.
