These numbers from world meter are helpful but often misleading. Different countries have differing reporting standards. Is there anyone here who actually believes there have been only 125 recoveries in the US? Many tested positive did their 14-15 days and are just fine, but havent had a post-quarantine test (test kits being in short supply)
The confirmed death rate tends to drop over time with most countries. US, for example, was over 4% to start, but is now at 1.3% and dropping. The reason is people start testing more people than just those really sick and so the death rate drops off. The confirmed death rate for the regular FLU is 10% for example, but the estimated death rate is less than 0.1%, because so many of the cases are mild. So, if the confirmed death rate for this is 1.3% in the US, and there are 10 assymptomatic people for every confirmed case, the actual death rate is 1/10th of that, or .13%. Italy is an unusual case with a VERY old population, heavy smoker, heavy obese in that region and 1/4 the hospital beds that the US has.
And just for clarification, Italy has 1/4 the # of hospital beds PER CAPITA, obviously way less than that in total
The diamond princess cruise ship is actually the best data we have since they did such wide testing. 1% died, despite a significantly skewed elderly rate (as is typical with cruises) with 40% being assymptematic, especially among the young. What that means is in a more normal population that doesn’t skew elderly, the death rate would be significantly lower than the 1% the Diamond princess cruise ship, possibly by a very large amount.
CDC numbers are probably more accurate than Worldometers for U.S. cases, but it’s hard for CDC to update in a timely manner (data from 50 health departments aren’t readily available 24/7).
