There were several similar attacks on women during that time.
Many of these were tourists. Maybe it continues and is not broadcast. Not a place women should travel alone in if they have a choice.

But I am also for death penalty for lying about rape and/or murder. That too, is biblical.
You would like Pakistan. = The USA once wanted custody of a civilian who had beaten a tourist to death with a piece of pipe in Pondicherry, India. - He fled to Pakistan & the USA requested that he be returned to US custody for trial for manslaughter.
While the paperwork was being completed the Pakistani prosecutor’s office learned that he had also raped/murdered 2 teenage school girls in their nation.
He insisted on being tried for his crimes in Pakistan & under Muslim law.
He was tried by a panel of judges shortly after Noon that day, admitted his guilt, was sentenced to death & shot by firing squad about 1400 hours that same afternoon in the garden of the courthouse.
The Pakistani Superior Court decreed that the corpse was to be returned to US custody forthwith.

There was another perp, a juvenile. He served a short sentence and was freed a few years ago.

It was all the fault of this university student for being on the bus with her boyfriend after seeing a movie, so she deserved to have her internal organs stabbed repeatedly through her vagina and anus with a rusty piece of rebar while her boyfriend was held down and had to listen to her screams.
Hanging was too good for these demons.
