Students at Princeton University are calling on their college to implement a universal Pass/D/Fail grading system for all spring 2020 classes. This comes after widespread student support for a mandate to “reevaluate the weight of Princeton U midterms.” The Daily Princetonian Editorial Board is leading the charge. On Saturday, the board published an editorial calling on the university to consider the P/D/F grading mandate.

maybe they should just bail on the whole “education” thing and automatically hand out diplomas to everyone along with straight A’s in everything at the end of four years when all four years’ tuition has been paid ... heck, for “accelerated” students, just let them pay all four years’ tuition upfront and hand them the diploma right then and there without having to wait even a day, much less four years ...

Many years ago, I took a stupid but required educational psychology course. I got an A on the mid-term. I was feeling quite proud of myself, until the professor put the grade distribution on the screen.
There were maybe 100 students in that class. There was one single C grade. All the other grades were B or better.
I was a chemistry major. And I never saw a grade distribution like that in a chemistry class. Those mean ol’ chemistry professors sure made us work. Maybe that’s why I know a lot about chemistry, but next to nothing about educational psychology.
I think the average grade at Harvard is already an A-.
The Elite of tomorrow cannot afford to have any black marks on their records.
If the Millennials ever take over and Mexico invades us, I know what the outcome will be.
I was a Chemistry major. The P Chem class was all A’s and B’s. The professor assumed that all the lesser students had been weeded out by the prerequisites.
Bill Clinton did something else to relieve his stress.

Wow. I never experienced anything like that. In fact, I sometimes thought the main goal of my P Chem 1 professor was to weed people out from P Chem 2.
