I worked with a guy who around age 61, was showing signs of dementia. Week to week, there might be two or three things he’d say (like Joe) and you would question how long before he was non-functional. Luckily for us, he was in the last year of work, and intended to be retired in 12 months. He kept his word and we gave him a big dinner as he exited into retirement.

Occasionally, he’d talk about his wife, who was OCD and a collector of magazines (probably having 40 piles around the living room of various publications which she read entirely and would quote things from her readings). None of the piles could ever be thrown out or moved.

I kinda wonder about the two of them today, and how retirement turned out.
