Northern Italy has one of the best public health systems in the Western world. Its doctors and medical professionals are well-trained. They felt prepared when the coronavirus began to spread through their prosperous, well-educated region.
And they still could do nothing to prevent what happened.
"I have never seen so many people die together before my eyes," said a nurse from one of the main hospitals in Bergamo, a city in northern Italy that is at the center of the worst outbreak in Europe. "It feels like we are crossing in the middle of a battlefield."
More than 2,500 people have died in about four weeks in Italy. With over 31,500 confirmed cases, the country's doctors and nurses particularly in the hardest-hit cities in the north are struggling to keep up. They're running out of beds, equipment and even people, particularly as more health care workers catch the virus.

No, this is a blatant lie. Their system is not set up to be even a bitmovertaxed. they spend their monies elsewhere, mostly social programs and welfare.

DR. BIRX: Thank you. Thank you, Mr. President, Mr. Vice President. So, you know, we continue to look at data every single day. There are concerning reports coming out of France and Italy about some young people getting seriously ill, and very seriously ill in the ICUs.
We think part of this may be that people heeded the early data coming out of China and coming out of South Korea that the elderly or those with preexisting medical conditions were at particular risk. It may have been that the millennial generation, our largest generation, our future generation that will carry us through for the next multiple decades, there may be a disproportional number of infections among that group. And so even if its a rare occurrence, it may be seen more frequently in that group and be evident now.
“They’re old so let them die a natural death.” Disgusting.
Unfortunately, the deniers here have expressed the same sentiment.
Italy’s survival rate for influenza and pneumonia is much better than ours. They are either healthier or have a better healthcare system, or maybe both.

Many Americans buy into the leftist talking points about european socialized medicine without actually having been there and seen it, they don't have a clue. It's all BS, the only truly first world medical care is in the U.S.

> Socialist single-payer healthcare with built in death panels for old people with Coronavirus. <
Ezekiel Emanuel was one of the architects of ObamaCare. He advocated much the same thing. He said that anyone over 75 should be denied medical care. So if you were an older vet, or just some poor slob who paid taxes all his life, too bad for you.
Funny how the mainstream media never reported on that.
“Italys survival rate for influenza and pneumonia is much better than ours. They are either healthier or have a better healthcare system, or maybe both.”
They also have one of the longest life expectancy in the world.
We Italians drink an enormous amount of red wine that is the secret to a long life!!!
There are reported to be 100,000+ Chinese migrant workers in Northern Italy in leather and textile industries. I’m pretty sure their travels home etc had some effect on the system too.
What I have experienced of the Italian system is better described as dehumanizing.
They also just had fashion week in Milan most of the garments and fabric from China thousand of people attending this!!
Resveratrol! Everybody I know that takes it loves that stuff, including me. Naturally, the FDA doesn’t like it though. Much better to stay on drugs they say.
Resveratrol - found in red wine.
