Even so, there was a huge amount of traffic between the two countries, regarding business. In fact, China told Taiwanese business owners that if they left, China would seize their businesses. Other Taiwanese had to choose whether to leave Chinese spouses behind, as China wouldn’t let them out. Not sure about tourism though - I know there had been a lot.
