New York officials say the state’s coronavirus total has jumped to 1,700, with at least 19% hospitalized. They said the number of cases will continue to rise as the state receives more test results. New York has 53,000 hospital beds and 3,000 ICU beds, far short of what state health officials are predicting will be needed, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.

The article does not say how many were tested because as we all know, massive test results are coming in nation wide.

Why does it read like an effort to try and score political narrative that Trump is not doing enough? (Damned propaganda, that’s why!)

The numbers of infected is going up because we are testing more.
At some point we will understand how serious this is.

Big jumps in the numbers are scary but, we have been expecting such.

"High % of hospitalization? Whats up with that?"

That's more like some of the early, unauthorized word we received from medical people through VPNs from the East about 6 weeks ago.

No one is saying it’s “just the flu” bro. They’re saying it’s not Armageddon and the flu is killing more people. Our country is burning down the house to kill the termites.

You're absolutely right. What is so disconcerting is the people on this forum advocating for all the draconian (unconstitutional)measures that the 'governments' of the land are imposing.

I do not recognize FR or my fellow (so-called) Americans. It's disgusting.

read it again, not a jab

53,000 hospital beds and 3,000 ICU beds

beds are useless without the icu system,

pressurized rooms to prevent germs escaping

they are actually running out of piping and tubes to keep things sterile

this is what happens when you offshore your critical infrastructure

Just a speculation; they have the beds now. They need to get experience with the first in to get protocols worked out. They can afford to give more of these first patients care to get them well before prioritization becomes more critical. The experience will help them learn who to prioritize.

Or not.

Convert the city football stadiums to MASH units - crash train nurses who can monitor vitals and ventilators. Get factories in the ball to start cranking out ventilators.

It’s all we’ve got.

yes there are 85% of people walking around with it ,

the issue is

even with fraction of testing

there are not enough icu units on the planet earth

not to mention all the infrastructure to keep it going

the piping and valves etc etc

maybe chicoms will send us a few slightly used

Average has been about 10%.

18%, for NY, is NOT good.

So which NYCity report is correct or are both incorrect?

New York City reports 923 coronavirus cases, 10 deaths
The Hill ^ | 03 17 2020 | Zack Budryk

New York’s total number of coronavirus cases is up to 923 with 10 deaths as of Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) said.

“The number’s gone up literally over a hundred cases in the course of the day. We’re at 923 cases at th his hour tonight, 10 people who have passed away,” de Blasio said on MSNBC Tuesday evening. It’s unbelievable how rapidly this crisis is growing right now.”

Asked by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow whether the city was still considering a “shelter in place” order akin to that of San Francisco, the mayor responded “This is something, as I said at a press conference today, that could only be done in conjunction with the state of New York. What I’m trying to say to people is, look at this movement, we’re seeing, it’s tragic.”

“The idea of shelter in place has to be considered now, it has to be done between, in our case, the city and state working together, respecting the state’s role,” de Blasio added, saying his intent was to communicate that New Yorkers should “get ready for the possibility, because it’s not so distant an idea at this point.”

To: right way right

Testing doesn’t matter. The numbers needing hospitalization and ICU do. They will show whether you test, or not.

Probably, a lot reported here as not needing hospitalization, are going to, in the near future.

Many of those hospitalized, now, may recover and be discharged in some amount of time.

It’s all a “numbers game”, and I think only a fool would try to call it now. The “experts” don’t appear optimistic.
